Hi everyone. We are looking to hold an Old School Planking Photo Contest.

For those of you who don't know what Planking is check out the definition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lying_down_game

The rules are very simple. Take a picture of yourself Planking on your old school import (basically anything 93' and older) or old school wheel or engine. It can be anything creative, just has to be considered old school. Submit the picture to us by this Friday, July 8th at Midnight. Saturday morning, July 9th we will create a photo album on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/shiftgear called Old School Planking. The picture with the most likes by the following Friday July 15th at midnight will receive a prize. We are currently deciding what the prize will be. The contest is open to all participants world wide. That's it. Submit your photo to our e-mail sales@shiftgearclothing.com or post it up on our Fanpage wall. No cost to enter. This should be fun.

Here is an example by Toyoteros Unidos from NJ Planking on their old school rides: http://www.shiftgearblog.com/2011/07/ol ... nking.html

Looking forward to some interesting / funny / creative pics.

Leisure diving looks pretty lame, but then so does most planking.

Best planking IMO is done by the Pujie Girls from Taiwan. Almost artistic, and done with a purpose... go Pujie Girls go!!

Personally, I think "old school" is kind of a subjective term, based on your personal experience and background. Let's take my specific case, for example. I remember hanging out with my sisters and their friends when I was very little, cruising in CRXs and minitrucks, 5.0s and turbo Regals, bumping Vanilla Ice and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince...to me, that's old school, because seeing those cars and hearing those tunes brings me back. Plus, in my climate, even seeing a car on the road from the mid-80s to early 90s is a rare sight, so I do tend to feel very nostalgic. Set adrift on memory bliss, n'est ce pas?

On the other hand, there's a lot of people who grew up bumping Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash in their Datsuns and Toyotas who think the idea of a '91 CRX being old school is preposterous.

When you think about it this way, the definition of "old school" exists purely in the hearts and minds of the people who lived it, in their own unique way. In ten or fifteen years, maybe my nephew will want to drive an MX3 and chase down Tupac tapes...because to him, that's old school! Old school is different to everyone. No-one's definition is wrong, just different.
