Hi all,
So I did a test install of my brand new 8pt Cusco Safety 21 steel roll cage on the US LHD 1973 Datsun 240Z track car I am slowly building up, and I have to admit I was honestly pretty surprised about how poorly it seems to be fitting.
I've contacted the authorized US Cusco re-seller I ordered the cage from and am waiting to hear back from them.
In the meantime I wanted to show the pics to you all and get your two cents.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
Am I doing something wrong?
Biggest issue is the main hoop (b-pillar) touchdown behind the seats.
It lines up with the stock seatbelt mechanism cavity, and the top two bolts would only bolt into the seatbelt cavity - not through the floor. The bottom bolt has nothing to bolt into - there's only thin air behind it!
The second issue is how flat the rear wheelarch touchdown on the Cusco cage is.
The Z's rear wheel arch is super curvy there so I'll have a big 1/2" ~ 3/4" gap between the cage touchdown plate and the stock wheelarch sheetmetal...
Both of these can't make this safe.
There's got to be something wrong here... no?

I guess I can't add the pics here - something about a board quota being reached.
So I've put them on flickr instead... have a look:
