Wow, thats alot of work on a car thats pretty much had it to begin with. Personally I'd leave it as a daily while you looked for another chassis thats isn't so rusted and hasn't had the roof cut off.

But if you are determined to fix that one, theres an aussie Z31 forum you might want to visit. You might be able to get some parts off people for cheaper than the USA. http://www.auz31club.com

hey mr camouflage, we intend to show the world that us malaysian's are crazy bastards fer sure.

the body and chassis repair sponsor is gonna go extreme on the car, he's gonna reengineer the car to take 500-600hp, we're looking at an RB26DETT transplant, so stay tune! this is kinda like the wangan midnight racing anime/manga

anyways, the car's being stripped of it's interior to assess its damage and hood's taken out

Sorry guys, cut and paste from my project log!

http://www.zerotohundred.com/newforums/ ... -come.html

Image

Alright, the Z's engine is out. There goes the tiny heart that has been pumping insufficient blood to its frail tired body. We are gonna do something really awesome to it. What you say? We are gonna chuck in a really really awesome engine to it. That's right, its the RB26DETT. The guy from Fong Seng Autoparts has been nice enough to hold on to the last unit of the RB26DETT that they have on hand and the last piece is going for RM2,800.

Image

Look at the large engine bay, it's possible to fit anything larger than the old red top RB20 engine. I would anticipate it would definitely fit in a larger V8 engine, should we go that route. But from the viewpoints of economic common sense, the V8 engine is gonna create a big hole in paying the yearly road tax. (I could only wish the government would have offered more relaxed taxable amounts for the larger engines, such as those in USA and Australia)

Image

There's the old RB20 red top. It's served its old master pretty well and its just not a very wise choice to rebuild it and use the old engine again. This ones definitely gotta go and to those who want a cheap upgrade to their cars, give me an offer price off private message or call me up at 016-5511035. Your purchase will contribute directly to the Z project build and have your name mentioned in the donors list as well.

Image

Becoming Michael Jackson, with his nose falling off

Image

Old gearbox tossed by the side, it would be part of the RB20 sale, any takers?

Image

Look at the amount of wires, thats just gonna be a lot of mess to sort out!

So yes, the guy who works for Fong Seng Autoparts has been nice enough to hold on to the last unit for our build. He mentions that, the engine is complete, minus the flywheel, coils and ECU. The important items, such as the turbine, manifold and wiring harness are present and given with part of the sale.

Image

He has agreed to knock RM300 off the engine purchase, his personal donation to the engine purchase and he hopes that we could do a good job in the project build and finish it in time. So, I would definitely recommend you guys, if you have any parts or half cut items that you are seeking, give Fong Seng Autoparts a try, here's the link below, add him on Facebook profile and group

Here's the current collection since its inception few days ago. Thank you to those who contributed so generously.

The donations can be in minimum denominations of RM50 and we will acknowledge your name (either in your forum username or full name). We will continuously update the donors list week by week, whenever there is one. Please email me at kevin@zerotohundred.com if you have made your donations.

You can donate by either methods : Paypal or Maybank2U

The paypal account address is kevin@zerotohundred.com

or

Here's the details of the bank in account

Donated parties (cash):

1. RM50 from Nadz - M2U
2. RM50 from (name withheld) - Paypal
3. RM50 from tksu - Paypal

Donated parties (items)

1. RM300 from Kevin Lee - Interior dome light, pilot light and door handles

Donated parties (cash discount)

1. RM300 from Fong Seng Autoparts

Please pass this news around. It will be great to have this built completed as quickly as possible. It would be an experience to resurrect this monster from his grave and bring it out to the general public. Think of a modern, real life iteration of resurrecting the Devil Z, with a modern twist. (with reference to Wangan Midnight Racing Manga/Anime) Cheers, thanks for the support all. Have a great Merdeka and Hari Raya month to all Malaysians. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I am glad to announce that Forged Racing Radiators from USA has proudly agreed to sponsor a set of radiators for the Project Z. Forged Racing Radiators, is a well known brand that produces high quality radiator and other cooling performance items that are great supplements to your daily ride.

Image

They have a wide variety of radiators for different models and make of cars and motorcycles. Their radiators are usually more superior than their competitor's offerings because they are made of aluminium instead of copper/brass components. The radiators are constructed with lighter materials and lesser fin count, which results in an overall lighter radiator, but equally well performing than the others. Besides that, they have a wide selection of fan shrouds, silicone hoses and radiator coolants that suits various needs of a daily driver or a performance driver.

Image

Top Malaysian drifter FAI with finalist contestant Sharon

Forged Racing is also an active sponsor in the automotive world. They have sponsored local race cars, inclusive of Kegani Autotech, JC Racing, FAI's 2-JZ Nissan 180SX drift machine and foreign cars, such as Odi Backhis' podium winning V8 powered Nissan 240SX S14.

Image

I was cordially invited to Forged Racing Radiators in Malaysia, which is located right next to N1 Racing, to take photos of a few Miss Forged Racing 2011 Finalists with them posing with Forged Racing's offerings.

I will look forward to the installation of the Forged Racing radiators in the Project Z car and will do a proper step by step installation guide in the upcoming updates to come. Stay tuned to more exciting updates to the Project Z.

@Eric, LOL, I just had to promote my sponsors, thats all!!

Image

Edison had his opening ceremony for his shop in Top Secret and was busy. He managed to send off the car to Rahmat, the owner of Playhouse Garage this morning. He had to show the car to prospective clients and sponsors, so that we get more of the project moving along.

Image

Playhouse Garage was formed in 2009, over a friendly discussion at an old school forum in Malaysia, where a bunch of friends dreamed of an idea to bring in old rust buckets and restore them into the former glory.

Image

Where most people would depend the "under the cherry tree uncles" for welding works, these guys are the true overhaulin' guys. Rahmat is a very meticulate guy who will pick up any old rust bucket and transform them back into their former beauty. He is very much like a plastic surgeon, except he works on metalworks. Rusts and holes are what he desires to fix and repair the most. His passion for rust makes him one of the best person to talk to, if you have a car that you think is rusted beyond usage.

Image

He will create new pieces of metal just for the car, even the part is almost disintegrated, as long as he has photographic source or an idea how the part looks like, he could replicate it with some awesome metal works. Furthermore, he can lighten and straighten it, with better modern materials to make the cars stronger and ligther.

Image

What his workers would do, is to measure the length of the piece of metal, to ensure the measurements and clearances are right, before they cut and fit the new metal piece. This precision work is likened to the old ways of building a car, like old school coachwork repairs. You definitely don't see this kind of work any more. Most of the metal works are now done by car plant robots, so this is pretty much like hand-crafting metal pieces into your car.

Image

To align the measurements and balance of the car, he uses a jig to make sure the car is straight even right after the metalworks is applied. This is to ensure the car handles properly right after all the work has been done. A crooked chassis can be detrimental to the entire built, as it would be unsafe to drive as the car would not be able to driven safely or have the wheels aligned in a straight position.

Image

Once the metal repair has been done, he applies a layer of grey prepwork to prevent the part from rusting further, after the bare metal had been exposed to the air, where rusts can occur again.

Image

This Volvo has most of its metal rust sealed up and repaired. It is given a final coat of metal prep before it is sent to the paintshop. The green metal prep coating is most durable and could be a great way to protect your car from rusting more in the future.

Image

Toyota Celica TA22 under restoration process

As for my Fairlady Z31, the chassis was badly rusted and the floorboard has cheeseholes. He has given the assessment that the car had a minor accident and has a weak chassis. Right now, he will help me repair the chassis and do metal repair works to the rust holes that exist in the car. My goals is that, he is able to fix the chassis and be able to withstand at least 350-400hp of power, where I would mostly use the car on the track. Since the chassis is so old, about 24 years now, it must have definitely gone through a lot with wear and tear.

Image

Oh la la, Datsun 240Z hidden under some drapes

If your keen on restoring your old school, antique or classic car, you should approach Rahmat in Playhouse Garage. He could also give you a seriously beautiful customisation job, the way you want it and like it. I sincerely believe that he is the one with the skill in Malaysia to restore your car properly and his metalworks is simply out of this world. Since Rahmat will help us realise our Z project, he mentions that a special discount is given to interested parties who wants their old bombs restored by him.

Just mentioned that you found this advertisement on Zerotohundred.com and contact him on this:

I spoke to Rahmat about the condition of our current Z31 and he cites that a lot of work has to be done and may take up to 4 months or more to actually get it up in tip top condition. Rust and holes are to be blamed to the extent of the damage in our car. We could really spend all the time to repair the rust and damage, but it wouldn't be worth the effort to do so, when better condition parts are available.

Image

We managed to look around and managed to find one empty Z31 shell that has been parked in the street outside of a mechanic shop. The Z31 has no engine and the dashboard missing, however a few important trim parts, such as interior liners are still present. The rear wipers assembly and the wing mirrors are missing or broken on our current car, so these parts are a great addition to the parts bin.

Image

There are other crucial parts necessary to the build, which has parts that allow us to convert from our current 4 lug hub into 5 lug hub. The doors, fenders and other panels are important to our build, as ours are badly rusted from inside.

Image

This is approach is similar to re-shelling the car, but it's merely a transfer of body parts from the former to the latter. What is re-shelling if you may ask? Here's an explanatory video by Mighty Car Mods of swapping damaged or bad parts with a better one from a donor car. Check out this video if you can.

How To Reshell a Car - YouTube

Purchasing the shell will cost another RM4,500. Currently, we did set aside a donation box to purchase the engine that was in possession with our half-cut suppliers. I hope we can raise up more funds to get the project going, as currently bills are rising up to our noses. I hope we will acquire the shell and have our project moving again!
