Gotta say... I care!

There's something about this late 60's early 70's Japanese styling, I can't put my finger on it, but I love it!!
Great to see all these Mazdas we never got in the States, I'd love to get my hands on one of these. Are there plans to keep the original power plant or is it going to get "rotorized"? I hope you keep the original motor in it if possible. I love me some Rotors, but I'm gaining a new appreciation for the older piston Mazdas.

I reproduce and collect Mazda Chassis plates, whats the serial number prefix? What year is it?

I hope your friend won't get offended if I say it's cute. :) I rather like it and I can't wait to see it finished!

One of the forgotten Mazdas. Glad to see I am not the only one restoring these.

Let me know if you need any bits for the resto, I may be able to help.

The wagon will be a 1965 model. The 1964 model has big air ducts down both sides of the engine bay and the 1966 model has the indicators in the grille.

I should have a good set of wagon hubcaps if needed.

Your idea of a "quick tidy up" demands respect! :tu:
Would love to see one of your "slight restorations". :D

Hey guys. I'm the owner along with my mate vinni. We actually have 2 of these bad boys. We found one at a wreckers in cooma and this one we are the second owners of, we got it from an old guy near Griffith who bought it new!

We just want to tidy it up and get it going again to use on the club days. Out of the 2 we should get a very tidy unit in the end... We want to put the coupe grille and steering wheel on. We wanted to put te twin round tacho dash from the coupe on it as well, but we are going to give that a miss.

We are chasing a set of hub caps if anyone can help??

You will need to change the headlight surrounds as well to put the Coupe grille on. Plus remove the lower indicators but you already knew that.

As per previous post I have hubcaps for a wagon.

It's looking great and it's all happening so fast!

Hope to order the paint today and the way it's going we should see some colour very soon. Being long weekend, we might go away and not much will happen this weekend.

Very nice Dave.... its a quirky little car manufactured in a era where there wasn't much respect for Japanese cars, I bet it has better features and finish than a eh or ej holden, probably a lot less rust as well !

Found a photo of the parts car that we actually bought first. We were put on to it by a trimmer friend of ours who was at coma wreckers buying parts for himself and saw it sitting there all lonely! We contacted the wrecker, agreed on a price and drove down to pick it up!

Awesome work Dave! Very nice work for such a fast job.......gotta love little wagons!

Just out of interest, do you know if the front bench setup would work in a 1200/1300, same rails etc, or would it be too narrow?

i doubt it... its pretty narrow, its only got 2 rails on the outsides closest to the sill's. and the tunnel i think would be taller in a 1300...

Thought as much....just thought it might be cool for something a little different.

Look forward to seeing the rest of the build and the finished product!

Looking good Dave..
Farecla is your best friend when doing jobs like this.
Your using G3? What do you use for a swirl remover?
