Been busy while waiting for the heads...

I think the tach location needs some work, but I'm not sure exactly what to do about it.

Luckily the original speaker hole was EXACTLY the same size as this tach, so I just modified it a little and got it to fit in there rather well.

The horns I built some simple brackets for (just thick sheet metal drilled with the right holes) and they fit good too. I actually saw a photo of a car in japan with horns installed like this too.

Those Hella horns are super nice, I'd want to show them off too. :tu:

Yes, the heads are shaved 2mm to fit the Weber manifold!

Test fit the manifold after installing the heads/headgaskets/valvetrain. Fits like a glove now! :tu:

But I have a big issue...

I DON'T HAVE THE LOCKING WASHERS FOR THIS FLYWHEEL!!! I need some ASAP for a 1300/1400 (EA62/EA63). There are 4 of them that lock down the flywheel, I didn't get any with this motor or the other EA63 I had awhile ago! I need them to be able to assemble the drivetrain! :(

Had a small idea. What about reversing the oil filler tube?

Ya, I won't make it :p I'll run out of money way before then, and if I do find a job by then, all my time will disappear in exchange :|

Looking good! Not sure I see the point in rotating the oil filler tube, but it does not look bad pointing in.

Hides it behind the carb/filter. I'll have to make sure everything clears everything OK if I try it.

Question:

Is it a problem that the tip of the transmission main shaft doesn't go into the crankshaft?

Have you managed the shaft bearing problem yet? I think it is not advisable to drive it without the shaft bearing,it centers the clutch plate. Maybe a custom bearing housing lathed, sticking some out of the crankshaf and with a smaller bearing in it, could solve this.

Ya sorry, I didn't include the discussion about the bearing here, its in this thread in some other forums though.

Turns out there is a pilot bearing from later models that fits on the flywheel which I used, works perfect now.

Dumb question: the things on the side of the transmission that look like brake drums... E-brake?

Yes, transmission mounted drums with the E-brake in the front too. I used red silicone tubes to go around the E-brake lines cause the original foam coating totally disintegrated.

So are those the front brakes mounted inboard on the transmission? I've never seen anything like it.
