The mazda 800.

Unloved, unpopular, worthless...

Somebody has to care right?

A mate of mine, Mik and i are cleaning up this old wagon, to put on club rego. Its his car, hes had it in storage for a few years and has decided to get it on the road. Hes on a tight budget with the car, as he has another drag Rx3 in the build. We are not sand blasting the car or giving it a major resto, as its simply not worth it , but a quick tidy up and some hard work should have it looking fairly respectable.

pulled out of the shed.

The strip down begins.
We are not taking this car back to metal, just sanding it down and repairing damage, puting it in primer and repainting.A cheap as possible paint job.

The door and gaurd had some damage right on the edges, so i removed them to repair off the car, and refitted.

Lower front apron was damaged, so i sliced it off to repair off the car.

Repairing the gaurds..and bare metaling around the front screen , due to fairly wicked surface rust.

All in primer here.

Hoping to have the roof done tomorow...more updates on the way.

Gotta say... I care!

There's something about this late 60's early 70's Japanese styling, I can't put my finger on it, but I love it!!
Great to see all these Mazdas we never got in the States, I'd love to get my hands on one of these. Are there plans to keep the original power plant or is it going to get "rotorized"? I hope you keep the original motor in it if possible. I love me some Rotors, but I'm gaining a new appreciation for the older piston Mazdas.

I reproduce and collect Mazda Chassis plates, whats the serial number prefix? What year is it?

I hope your friend won't get offended if I say it's cute. :) I rather like it and I can't wait to see it finished!

One of the forgotten Mazdas. Glad to see I am not the only one restoring these.

Let me know if you need any bits for the resto, I may be able to help.

Im not sure what year it is? it would be between 64 and 68 i think?

mazda jon would know, he has a few of these.

Yes , we need some parts. He has a parts car, but we know for sure we need hubcaps for it.

Got the roof done today.

Few rust worms , took it back to metal in those spots, repaired a few dents and in primer.

The wagon will be a 1965 model. The 1964 model has big air ducts down both sides of the engine bay and the 1966 model has the indicators in the grille.

I should have a good set of wagon hubcaps if needed.

Hey guys. I'm the owner along with my mate vinni. We actually have 2 of these bad boys. We found one at a wreckers in cooma and this one we are the second owners of, we got it from an old guy near Griffith who bought it new!

We just want to tidy it up and get it going again to use on the club days. Out of the 2 we should get a very tidy unit in the end... We want to put the coupe grille and steering wheel on. We wanted to put te twin round tacho dash from the coupe on it as well, but we are going to give that a miss.

We are chasing a set of hub caps if anyone can help??

You will need to change the headlight surrounds as well to put the Coupe grille on. Plus remove the lower indicators but you already knew that.

As per previous post I have hubcaps for a wagon.

It's looking great and it's all happening so fast!

Hope to order the paint today and the way it's going we should see some colour very soon. Being long weekend, we might go away and not much will happen this weekend.
