I just picked up my first Datsun. Its overall in very decent shape. It has a few rust spots, dents and dings. Its bone stock as of right now, L24E,3 speed auto.I plan to keep it somewhat stock, just a bit lower, with some 15's.

Today's progess,Lowered the rear 2". The fronts are for tomorrow. I'm messing around with using some xxr 002's I've had for awhile. They're the new 15x9's in the rear, which seems to be a bit too wide for it.I'd like to find some old mesh rims,in a 15x8.

This is the best I have. I like them because they arent multi-lug.I'm not super big on the flush scene, but It is nice seeing nothing but lip in the side view mirror.

I think so too. This is my first datsun,so I need to learn what fits what. I need a steering box, which seems to be hard to find. Did they use this box in any other cars?

Yes I do. 3 Speeds suck. At 70 mph,i'm at 4,000rpm. I'd like to go with a Ka24de,and a 5 speed,or auto w/overdrive.

Today was basicly wasted. I was told 280ZX strut cartridges will work in an 810,they just need to be spaced out at the bottom. The ones I got were wayy too short. Then I cut the springs, one coil off. Didn't lower it an inch, even after driving around the block 5 times. not too sure what to do next.It needs to be about 2" lower in the front to match the rear.Any ideas?

One coil ain't gonna do nothing.... you have to at least go 2-1/2 or 3 coils. Believe me. I know!

Yea i've had more than a few glaces at your car. The stance is perfect. What struts did you use?

Stock struts...

I have seen varying answers on which (if any) other struts should fit. The 280zx ones are supposed to fit... but you are at least the 3rd person to say otherwise. Good luck...

the 280zx inserts will work that's what I'm running on my car since the didn't have for the 810.. yeah they are short but my fix to that so it wont be all loose in the strut was to insert the cartridge and then I used some leftover urethane bushings and cut up to put on top of the strut so when I screw the top on it would squeeze the strut down and hold it tight and it worked. no movement what so ever..

Thats what I plan on doing. I have some thick metal tube I want to cut down for a spacer in the strut tube. I have new ball joints and injectors on the way,so hopefully I can start making some more progress.

Finally got some time to play with it. The front is now all set. 2.5 coils cut off,and 280zx struts, and new ball joints. This is pretty much the perfect stance for me.

Small update-new rear shocks, spark plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor installed. I'm still looking for a steering box or rebuild kit.Any ideas?

This car might be for sale or trade soon.

I was gonna say the same thing... a 3speed auto is working OVERTIME, in a big Datsun like the 810. Even my 81 Toyota Corona came with a 4speed auto w/overdrive... and even that seems pretty weak. :|

I can imagine, your 810 must be "REV happy" on the highway... I had the same experience in my 87 S12 200sx, just a few days ago...

I was on the highway going about 75mph, when I noticed my car sounded a lil louder and my tach was revving at about 4000-5000. I was like WTF?....... and then I noticed, the overdrive button on the shifter, wasn't pushed in...

When I pushed it in... everything was great. She was ALOT quieter, smoother, and only was around 2500-3000rpm.

Whew. :tu:

most commen leak to check is the intake boot on the ribs.. and the charcoal canister. where the lil vacuum hose goes one the canister pop off the lil cap and the lil baffel might have a hole in it. also check that the to make sure that the a/c vac reserves solenoids hold vacuum cuz it might be leaking and sending vacuum to the fast idle ..
