So what else did you find?
Sounds good on track.
You can hear the inside wheel spinning up. Did you mention a limo coming?
Seems to turn in really well now.
Yes, it's chalk and cheese compared to the previous time at Wakefield, when I really had to yank the front end into the apex. Now if anything there's too much turn-in

And yes adapter axles have been ordered from Beta Motorsport, which will allow me to use a Subaru STi LSD unit in place of the open stock diff.
But when I was stripping the engine, what I noticed was this....hark! What's that black stuff?

Hmm...

When the head was ported in Japan, they went through to the water jacket in that spot, and filled it with some sort of 2 pack epoxy. When the head was in our hands, and was getting the treatment by my cylinder head guy, he machined back some of the putty, skimmed over the top with DevCon and then re-ported it.
DevCon is the correct product to use in this sort of application, but we have no idea of knowing what the Japanese head porters used. So I think what's happened is that the Devcon is reacting with the japanese epoxy, and it's gone black (Devcon is an aluminium based epoxy, so it's normally the colour of metal) and has started to bubble up and lift at the edges. So the head's back in Adelaide at Knight Engines, and Tony will cut out a big chunk between the two ports, build it back up with weld, and then machine it all back again. It'll be a 100% metal repair and we won't have to worry about this again.
Bad news is that it's kinda a big job, and with all the public holidays in the next week, it won't be possible for the car to be back together for the All Japan Day show next weekend....I'll try to get the Luce into shape instead (and this wouldn't be the first time the Luce has had to stand in for the Hako, as you know)
