ive never seen a sedan with that shifter console... is that out of a z600? wonder where i could locate one of those!

This car should be more or less stock as far as I know.
I think the EDM models came with these consoles originally.

I used to be on there with a EDM Civic EG5 I built some time ago.
Not in the same hp-range as yours though...

I'm pretty sure those shift consoles are only in the Deluxe spec and G spec versions. Yours must be a Deluxe as it has the wood effect dash etc.

I'm tempted to fit one in mine as they come up in Japan occasionally but I'm yet to find the entire assembly, the brackets for the shifter are different etc as they mount lower, so I suspect mine will remain dash shift.

Way to early to be thinking of what oil to run and such.
But a collegue of mine donated a few cans of oil to the project.
He is into vintage motorcycles and has alot of this special oil in his inventory.

It is out of Castrol's Classic series specially developed for various old engines.
This one should be suitable for motorcycle engines, where engine and gearbox share the oil.
I think this particular one is meant for like really old engines, like pre-1950 or something like that.

Any input on this subject anyone?

I have no idea if this has any advantage at all over regular 10w30 motor oil.
Or if it is a disadvantage all together...

But who cares of the content as long as the cans look as good as these

Currently i have 20w-40 in my n600 - just regular high mileage stuff.

But i will be changing to 20w-40 Motorcycle oil just for the additives like you said in your post.

the weight should just depend on the temperature where you are.

here is the page out of the n360/n400/n600 shop manual that i have

i run brad penn 10w30... it has the high levels of zinc our old engines need..

i wouldnt run motorcycle oil..our engines are like a motorcycle engine but they do not have wet clutches. clutch is on the outside.

The main reason for the car being a no-runner is that the previous owner lost a few jets while trying to clean up the carb.

I'm re-building the entire carb anyway, but I'm still not sure of the jets.
I have bought a carb kit for the -75 Goldwing GL1000, which has a similar carb, but I'm not sure whether I can use the jets in this kit or not.
Anyone with opinions on this?
Will I get the correct A/F mix using these in the N600 carb?

Or better yet, anyone know where to source the OEM N600-jets?

why not just buy a used carb off ebay for $40...then youll have the peace of mind knowing you have the correct jets.

I use a Canon EOS 40D with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4




I actually did that already.
Have an extra carb lying around, so I have that option.
However, it is in a poor state, and completely clogged with residues, rust and dirt.

It's just that it would be so much easier to just insert these new shiny bits and be done with it, thats all

I'm thinking that A/F mix is universal.
The goldwing would need the same ratio I guess.
Of course the GL1000 has 4 of these carbs but the ratio through each of them should still be 14,7 to 1 ?
Or am I way off?

I have been reading your topic and am happy to say that you have a very nice base for a good restoration.
I am also restoring a 1974 Honda N600 ,yours is in much better shape than mine was when I started

So you have a -74 as well? Nice!
I've had doubts on whether mine is from that year or not, but if there are others as well, that kind of settle it.

Finally some real progress
Decided to make an effort to start the car up prior to taking it apart.
Just to see if everything works and to get a feel for what needs replacing and fixing.

I have had a spare carb lying around for som time.
Gutted this one to source the jets that were missing on mine.
Did a re-build on mine, properly cleaning all passages and jets, replacing O-rings, gaskets, etc.

I drained the engine oil and replaced the filter.
The oil coming from the engine is of the worst I have ever seen!!
It had a terrible smell that I can not even begin to describe. Does that shit turn rotten over time?
Anyway, filled it back up with some temporary 10W30 oil.

Next up were the ignition system.
Inspected the coil and cables and replaced the point, and the spark plugs.

While the plugs were out I also took a compression test.
Both cylinders came out at a little over 150 psi which is actually quite good if I have understood correctly.

Hooked up a new battery.
The old one probably ended its life back in 1984.

As the fuel system on the car is clogged and requires work I made a temporary frankenstein gravity tank thing

After that I engaged the choke and turned the key...

I was quite surprised that it fired up so easily.
And even more surprising, it actually kept a steady idle, since I have made absolutely no effort at all making any set-up of the carbs adjustment screws.
There is however some hesitation when giving it som throttle, so I guess I need to adjust some here and there.

I know 1988-1991 honda parts are tough !

Holy crap that carb is tiny! I remember cleaning my truck's carb and it needed to soak in an old gallon ice cream bucket.
