Some of the nostalgic styling details include the subway hand rings, JAF grille badges, and leaf stickers seem rather popular. I was wondering if the old navi antennas had the same appeal.
Japan has had factory installed and after market on board navigation systems for 25 years. The street address system is based on quadrants instead of sequential house numbers. There is no grid pattern for streets. So without a navigation system, there is no prayer of ever arriving at your destination. And the big plus was a highly developed traffic alert system to warn the driver of accidents and road construction to avoid, well over ten years before Garmin or the US market.
The older navi systems used two rabbit ear antennas, usually attached at the left and right side of the rear window, on the C or D pillar. Usually angled down toward the trunk, instead of sticking up like a radio antenna. They always looked rather intimidating on Chasers or sticking out from under the wing of any car with a roof spoiler.
It's all archaic today, with cell phones and GPS. So does this become another detail for nostalgic styling?
