 Post subject: Carb cleaning/polishing? Has anyone done it?

I am about to do a MILD rebuild on my weber DCOE for my Civic and in my searches and in my weber books there are all these shots of beautiful shiny webers. Now, mine isn't dirty, but it certainly isnt shiny. I have some basic tools, including a dremel.....has anyone here polished a carb? How did you go about it?

The air cleaner is polished as is the valve cover (but I took it somewhere to get it done)

Id like to make this look nice if possible...any tips would be great!

I heavent seen any polished carbs, wouldnt waste time with that In my opinion(as the filter goes over it and its practically not seen).Ive seen some carbs that look pretty well painted.

I think the way to do it is to have it bead blasted.

certain parts may have been chromed or given a zinc coating.

mind you, I cleaned my wheel caps with some kitten number 2 and a dremel buffing pad. the number 2 has a cutting substance in it, cleaned them right up, then I polished them with a fresh buffing pad and some car polish.

Soda blasting brings cast alloy up really well. Im currently doing a carby resto and im looking into an acid that is used to clean truck and boat alloy parts, its supposed to bring them up like new.

Please do NOT polish the carbs from that point where the fuel is purified (so basically from the butterflys to the engine intake). You can smooth the walls, but not polish it as the air/fuel mixture would get back to fuel drops at the wall when they are polished.

^ what he said. I meant more on the outside. You want the inside to be roughly like a golf ball surface
