Hey, I currently own a 83 Datsun 910.

Thing is, a couple of bits that used to be blue about 20 years ago are now a faded and turned in to some light green tint

How can I restore them to their former glory?

Its the panel underneath the glove box, and the seat belt locks.

Even the red push button on the belt lock has turned white

Can they be painted or is there anything else that can be done?

I have had some success using a heat gun, just very slowly pass it over the plastic parts & it brings out the original colour

some times a bit of metal polish will remove the white oxidation

Thanks for the tip, I'll try the metal polish ting first.

Worst case scenario if those other methods dont work you can always re-spray them with S.E.M. trim paint. S.E.M. makes paint specially for interiors which is very durable and does not fade with time. Your local paint/body supply store would carry already made colors. However you can have them make you a custom color in aerosol form.

Not too long ago I had to the same issue with my father’s car. The sun faded the plastic panels to the point they were almost white. The place where I buy my paint was able to match the color exactly. It took them a couple days but it was well worth the wait.

Is there a ColorGlo service person in your area?


I had the interior bits from my AE71 all recently redone. In my cars case... some of it was brought back with a heat gun... but the interior was also "dyed" with the SEM type interior dye

okey now I tried the heat gun method, but that didn't help. So I guess the only way to restore them is with some vinyl paint. But thanks for the tips guys
