Hello everybody.
I am a new member to this site. i saw this car for sale five days ago. so i sold another one of my cars, turned around and not an hour later was driving this home.
it is a 1983 honda civic 5 speed hb. the back emblem says it is an S, but i am not 100% sure about that. it does not have a sunroof or an S badge on the front grill. it does have a tach inside.
so can someone confirm if it is a S?
we found the original owners manual in the glove box. the back page says it was originally purchased in FEB of 1983 at scottsdale honda in az. so it has been an AZ car its whole life. NO RUST!!
we drove it for about 50 miles yesterday and have had no problems. the ac is still ice cold, ftw!
The original stereo was not in the car but it had a cd deck from 1999 that didnt work, so the first thing i did was break out the old wire cutters and installed a new deck last night. luckily the car isnt too old where a new stereo isnt an eye sore.
my wife wanted me to watch a chick flick with her last night so i pulled of the beauty rings on the wheels and polished them up during the movie.
i will get more pictures soon. these are just from my cell phone.

yeah, so I pretty much can't figure out how to post a pic that isn't a link. Lol

I've also been searching the interwebs for hours trying to find a few odds and ends pieces for the car. Does anyone know a good site for ordering parts for this civic. I'm hoping to find the type s honeycomb grill, the front spoiler and side molding.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Nice civic! I know it isn't a first gen civic, but the folks over at 1stgencivic dot com can help you find just about anything you need - if it still exists.

Good to see another hatch on the road!

Yes it is an S model. They only came in red and black. I don't believe the base model came in red.

things ive done after owning it for three days.
-replaced the stereo with one from this decade
-deep cleaned the wheels (they didnt look like they were cleaned ever behind the beauty rings)
-polished the beautiy rings
-fixed the dents in the front valance under the front bumper. it looked like some one had tried using the jack on the valance instead of the frame of the body.

future plans.
- i have already started body work on the part that goes around the top of the windows, i dont know what to call it, "the gutter looking thing"?
it seems like someone has tried to break into the car with a crowbar from the top part of the window. so i grinded it down to bare metal and will do the bondo work tomorrow. i couldnt find the plastic trim that cover it so i will just prep it very good and paint it black.
- i really want to find the JDM honeycomb grill and front spoiler.
-if i cant find a front spoiler, i will try to fabricate one this summer.
-i will paint the rims a dark silver color, and leave the beauty rings on as well.
- i would like to drop it an inch or so but cant find any springs for the car.
i am not sure if i should just cut an inch off the springs or what if i come to a dead end on that search.
-tint the windows (ARIZONA!!!)
- if it is possible i would like to bring the bumpers in a little so they dont stick out so far.
- i have a few little trim pieces i still need but are they extremely hard to find.
- re-pinstripe it (i know how to do that myself!)
-dress up the engine bay a little. that air intake hose is an eye sore but im not sure what can be done about that.
- remove the cat. converter if possible (historic vehicles are emmissions exempt in AZ)

i think that is all that i can think of now.
if anyone has any advice at all on any of the things ive mentioned, please help a brother out!

Nice! I had a 1500dx swapped in a weber carb and it was a blast to drive. Also to be sure it is a S I believe they came with a rear sway bar. Nice find.[/list]
