hotwheels/matchbox guys:

I was looking for a present for a nephew a few months ago and the hotwheels display caught my eye.
Sure enough, I've been buying a few ever since, I've been trying to get all of the older cars in matchboxes and the most realistic looking hotwheels muscle cars.

I missed out on two racing liveried Corvettes (had no cash on me), but it got me wondering, is there a way to find out what hotwheels cars are rare or limited releases?

I didn't find a Ford Falcon XB coupe at all this year either. :(

I think I'm going to have to buy the XB coupes off ebay, they're just not around where I'm looking.
I've got a few different coloured Datto 510's and the mustang prototypes.
I also found a Daytona Cobra treasure hunt one in the CBD big W. win.

bought a slightly embarrassing amount of them today!

Found some more racing corvettes so I got a few of them, some Torinos and some other muscle cars but no XB coupes.

Comparison shot with a Tomica Mazda

Mazda?? Don't look any Mazda I know. I think that green car is a 1975-80 Chevy Monza Town Coupe.

It looks just like the '75 Monza Town Coupe I had... it was green, but had a white vinyl half top. :)

Wow... even that car looks like a Monza coupe. That car is pretty CORNY looking for an import. I think vinyl tops look stupid on Japanese cars... like they were trying to hard to get American buyers.

It looks more like an American coupe like the 70's Sunbird, Monza, and Mustang II.

You were right, though.

Ironically, you hit the nail on the head, the Cosmo and 121 Models were designed for and marketed in the 'States as "personal cars" which was the next big market after the muscle car scene died out. Unfortunately, the RX-5/Cosmo and 121 bombed pretty much everywhere, apart from Japan and that was only because Mazda ended up supplying lots of government departments with Cosmos and 121's because they met or exceeded pollution rules of the day.

not only that, Cosmo won the 77 (or 76) car of the year in japan. also both 121/rx5(cosmo) got the disks all around (one of the first jap cars). :)

And we're all familiar with the Datsuns. These were for a friend in Germany, so I didn't open them... (I know there are more, but I don't have those photos handy).

And here's an old photo of some Corollas...

Toyota sent them out to car salesmen back in the early 90's. They came with a personalized name plate like the one in your photo. The one I have is minus a name plate because I removed it - the guy it was for had quit the dealership and I was the lucky guy that inherited it. :D

My parents received one of these as well as a Mark II model from a family friend who was one of the original staff at Toyota in the 60s. It's all corroded looking like the one in the other post by Dan and I was planning to paint it and clean it up. It does not have the stand, it is just free standing and I think it still has the plastic "windows".

actually, no there were 40.

Yes, 750 of each car was made, but only 40 SIGNED triple sets made.

Ever wonder what happened to the good ol' Choro-Q?
Haven't seen any new ones for a long time (except for the RC ones).

Well, this doesn't explain where they went, but it does tell us they are coming back! :tu:
