Last month a a friend gave me his very tired '76 Civic. Engine had blown and I was looking to maybe fix it up.

Thanks to Craigslist, found this beauty just 1 mile from my home. A '77 Civic 5 speed, garaged in dry storage since 1989. Engine had blown and threw a rod, owner put in a used engine (it was bad too) so he bought a brand new engine from the Honda dealer, put it in the car... and never touched it again for 21 years. The engine has never been turned over. Paid $360 for the entire car! Very minor rust, a small crunch on the right front fender. He took it out of the garage, rolled it into the front yard, put it on Craigslist, got 4 hits on it in a matter of hours and I trailered it home that day.

Perfect car for a solid resto. Great way to start the new year!

That sir is a great find. I could use some luck like that. Good luck with the resto.

I wanna see pics! I hope the "new" engine is still good after all this time.

What engine is that? It has a different valve cover on it. :)

Pulled the valve cover off it and the engine is indeed new, brand spankin' new, never even had oil in it.

The owner covered every hole in the engine to keep goobers and dust out. Just filled it with oil and letting is set before I turn the engine over by hand.

TLC is what it is going to get.

I am a purist when it comes to saving all these old cars, I like to keep all my cars as original as possible.

Did a light buff on the paint after taking the dealer-installed body side molding off. Paint is nice and shiny after years of oxidation. Body side molding is not going back on.

Front corner crunch looks like it can be fixed nicely without too much hassle.

I can answer that easily Kev. 3 words... Out Of Space.

I have maxed out every place I could to get all these cars in storage, I just don't have the room... Yet!

On my list is an Isuzu 117 and a Mistu Starion.

Nice find and great deal. It feels very good when you get a deal like that.

The big deal back then was to get the "Canadian head" which wad not CVCC. With some oiling changes engine was bullet proof. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/ ... 210/page1/
