Right on the heels of Impulsives report Back from Japan: Vehicle Report, I too am back from Japan and planned on doing something similar. So, here it is, Toyotageek's Vehilce Tour, Japan 2010.

I posted some of the more nostalgic cars I saw in the main discussion, but here is where all the not vintage and a few non-Japanese cars will be, as well as other vehilces.

The pictures are mostly in chronological order from the start to the end of my trip. Some pix are better than others, so please excuse the quality or small subject matter of some photos...

I stayed in Kamakura, and visited various parts of Yokohama and Tokyo, as well as Enoshima and Hakone. This was a trip to visit friends and family, so car stuff was a low priority.

Japan, especially Tokyo, is crawling with taxis. Unfortunately I didn't take as many pictures of taxis as I would have liked - mostly due to timing, and location.

Another Toyota taxi in Kamakura (I think this one is a Toyota Comfort) Can you ID any of the background vehicles?

And this Toyota Hiace Police Van at the main police office in Kamakura (I can't recall, but I think the patrol car in the background was a Crown. Unfortunately I could not enter the parking lot to take better pictures).

Next set of photos are some of the cars that are on collection at the History Garage in Odaiba. The History Garage is a Toyota facility located near MegaWeb, adjacent to the Venus Fort shopping mall. The collection contains a number of vintage cars from Japan, Europe and the USA. I only took photos of the Japanese cars, but in retrospec I realized I should have taken pictures of the other cars for you to enjoy. My bad, but gives me a reason to go back again next trip.

Let's take a walk through memory lane...

The History Garage is set up like a giant diorama, with cars displayed in 'street scene' settings, however, my photos don't really show this effect very well.

Now we enter the main showroom, which houses a 'history' of Japanese cars.
To the left we see these examples. The lighting is dim, and a flash doesn't work well, so please bear with the poor pictures, especially of the darker colored cars.

Now let's look to the right of this exhibition hall. Ah, a line-up of mostly Toyotas!

After this exhibition hall you enter a shop called Grease. This shop is full of automotive collectables - from books to diecast. I bought a magazine, book and DVD here. Once you exit Grease, you are thrust back into the History Garage. There is a small restaurant here, and then we see this festive holiday example of a Toyota...

That's it for this level... oh, I forgot to mention, the facility is on two floors! Let's go down to the first level to see some racing history!

Now, lets go to the first floor of the History Garage. This is where the Restoration Garage is located as well as various exhibits and cars. The exhibits are models of race cars in various scales (I didn't take any pictures... but I'll try to dig up some old ones I may have). In the past, I have seen F1 cars, Super GT cars and various other race cars on temporaty exhibit. Out on the patio are the same three cars that I think have been there for several years.

In the Restoration Garage was this Toyota Sports 800, A Carina?, and a Vespa.

Outside on the patio were these three...

Out on the round-about, which is part of the test drive course from MegaWeb was the Toyota iQ EV which just finished up a photo shoot.

Next up were some cars I photographed while driving between Kamakura and Yokohama.

Definately a Crown Police car (GRS180)

The car in the middle is a Toyota Carina. On the left is another Toyota, and the right a Nissan Moco?.
Note that a yellow license plate is a Kei car.

Another day, more cars sighted! One day we went to Enoshima by monorail (pics later). On the way to the station we passed a driving school. Very different from what we have in the US! In Japan, driving schools actually have closed courses that students practice on. The facility not only provides a place for personal drivers license lessons, but bus and truck and motorcycles too! Here are a few photos of the school grounds. You can see two cars driving by, and in the background is a bus that is about to practice backing into a space with "bungee cord" walls.

Continuing on our way to the monorail station I spotted this Toyota

On the island of Enoshima was this Toyota Hiace Postal van.

And back on the mainland at this Fujisawa Police Enoshima Koban...

A Suzuki of some sorts.

And a police scooter.

And since we're looking at scooters, how about these pizza delivery scooters?!

Next day was a trip to Hakone.
Many of these pictures were taken on the road, and image quality is not as detailed and cars not as large, but I'd like to share them anyways..

I took better car pictures today. Our pace slowed down, so I walk walk at a more liesurly pace and do some car-seeing.

These next few were cars we passed almost everyday as we walked to Kita-Kamakura station.
