I hope it is ok to post this in this section....

So I'm back from a 2 week trip to Japan. We visited Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo. I took a lot of car pics and I thought I would share. Most of them aren't nostalgic, and many I've never seen.

Sadly, I saw no Isuzu VehiCROSSes, no Troopers, no Piazzas, and only one Isuzu street car, this one, an older Mu.
Image

There were plenty of Isuzu Elfs though, like this, and a few other box trucks.

Image

One of my favorite vehilces I saw a few of, were these older Land Cruisers. According to Wikipedia, these appear to be models from the 80s, but our domestic LCs looked nothing like this in the 80s. I even saw a 2DR SWB version.

Image

Image

Another model, I think ours looked more like this.
Image

And while I saw only one Isuzu SUV, there was no shortage of little Suzuki 4x4s.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I think this is one of those old 2 cylinder Suzukis, right?
Image

And what's that black SUV behind this little blue Suzuki?
Image

That's right, a SWB 2DR G-Wagon. I didn't even know Mercedes made them like this!
Image

4x4?
Image

Image

And check this out. A Nissan Rasheen. I've never seen one of these before until I went to Japan. These SUVs are super short. And I mean top to bottom, not front to back. I would love to have one of these and lift it and put big meats under it. Its hard to tell in the photos, but this little vehicle was super low.
Image

Image

And a few Mitsus.
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And then there are all of these, all of which I have never seen, and know little or nothing about.

Cedric Gran Turismo I think???
Image

Toyota Origin, I looked this one up.
Image

?
Image

I really want to know what this one is.
Image

HA!
Image

?
Image

I think I didn't see many Zus because the cities were primarily dominated by mini trucks, mini cars and motorcycles, like these little vans:
Image

And I know this isn't a bike forum, but does ANYONE know what model Yamahas these are?
Image

Image

Japan was awesome, I want to go back!

Bart

PS - This morning I got a speeding ticket in my Impulse. :\

That bike is a Yamaha TW200, you can buy them new in the States and they are totally awesome. Super fat rear tire means sport-bike handling out of a little 200cc, dual-purpose thumper. :tu:

I've wanted one for years. Sadly, four sisters, a mother, and a girlfriend means no motorcycles.

By the way, your white Piazza/Impulse is the cleanest example I've ever seen. :tu:

Yeah, I'm sure the females in my life would prefer I don't get a bike, and quite honestly, it does "scare" me a little, but I would only use it for casual cruising around town and light trail riding. There's just too many boneheads on the road for me to risk riding every day. Its a matter of probability.

Thanks! Yeah, she's in real nice shape. I'm about to roll 60k this week. The body is straight, needs a good detailing an a small ding or two repaired and that's it. Mechanically, everything is basically ok too. It has an idling problem when cold, which I think is a bad IAC or MAF, and it leaks coolant and oil pretty good. I'm saving up for a lift for my garage, and once I get that I will put her up for a month or two and rebuild the front end (needs ball joints, shocks, brakes and rotors, etc) and take care of the leaks and install some new censors. Then I will get it retinted and get a really nice detailing, voila!

Daihatsu Copen. Kinda like a mini Audi TT.

Those Landcruisers are the agricultural versions. Ton's of them over here in OZ although they've only just started bringing in the 4 door wagons. Mostly utes and troopcarriers over here. They've only just updated that body style a couple of years ago which basically looked the same since the mid 80's. Tough as nails and used in mines and by farmers or anyone who really abuses the crap out of their work vehicles.

Funny lookin car at the bottom is a Will Cypha (made by Toyota)

And there are even dealers in Tokyo that specialise in this quirkly 4x4 :)
Image

Coolest Rasheen was this Hummer conversion at the 2008 Tokyo Autosalon :) Looked pretty convincing!

1st gen Jimny?

Image

Mercedes-Benz G-Class, aka Gelandewagen. Former military vehicle.

Image

I think it's a Cedric Y32

Image

I know Daihatsu did some cool retro editions of their small cars. Maybe that's what it is?

It's the 1st gen Jimny design, but 3rd facelift version, the SJ10:
Image
It's a 3 cylinder 2 stroke... with a whopping 26hp.

It's pretty nice, but I still love the Mitsubishi Jeep:

Those Land Cruisers were 70-series (the LC line diverged in the mid-late 80s and the 70 series continued to be sold around the world and in Japan well into this decade (hence the modern Toyota logo in the grille).

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like a fun trip!

Great topic! I just got back from Japan myself and will do a similar post.

The VW bus is a Daihatsu kit - you see a lot of them.

The other oddity looks Misuoka-ish, but could be another kit conversion.

Thanks for posting these!

The VW replica is actually the Subaru Sambar, it is a very popular kit.

It's a recent trend there actually, making the kei cars look like vintage ones. Here's the company with the Sambar's VW kit and several others:

Like the Sukuzi Every's new Chevy kit:

Isn't that a Mitusoka? It looks like it's based on a Nissan Micra at any rate. Still vomitus at any rate.

The Rasheen is also awd with an sr20. a little work and it could be a 'gtir inside'

I like the 'trend' of making they kei cars look like oldies. I see quite a few running around here.
