Been a bit slack lately but things are happening.
Replace my handbrake cable, so that's finally done.
Need to take some pics of how to do it.
Also still need to fix the sender in the fuel tank.
It needs a good seeing to to make it read right.
And need to put in a head unit and my amp and sub.
The original one keeps dropping out the left side.
Doesn't sound that good anyway.

The reason I have not done any of this is that I have sprained my sacroilliac. dunno if that's how you spell it but it hurts. Can't bend over or anything.
So just been enjoying driving the car. Back doesn't hurt while seated in the Bride :D

Putting ones back out just sucks. I did that 2 days before a 24 hrs of Lemons race back in May. I managed to drag myself up to the race (a 2 hr drive in not the most comfy seats out there) discovered that I could get into and out of the car (not easily, but I could do it.) The following day I went out pretty sore, 2 hrs later (we were running 2 hr stints in the car) I jumped out as good as new... My back was feeling great.

Good luck with your back. You might try a 2 hr stint in a race car to fix it.

Back is now good.
Just have a case of lazy.
My wife and kids bought me a good Ipod compatable head unit for fathers day so now I have to do it
Got an interesting problem that seems to affect GTS-R engines(well, 2 of the 3 I know of)
But I'll get back to that.
Going to do a bit of work on her this weekend so I'll pack the camera.

Yup, that's the one.
Dave's did the same thing.
Fixed now.
I'll write it up as soon as I get a chance.
(writing this at 5.20am before leaving for work)

Okee dokee, got off my arse and did some work.
Fixed my fuel sender, now when the gauge reads 1/8 tank it actually has petrol in it!
Fixed the cam belt problem. Twice as per usual.
Tightened the belt so you could absolutely not twist it 90 degrees.
To tight wannit. Went all zingy on me.
Anyone who has done this job on an RB twin cam knows it's no small thing. Its a radiator out job.
Even the crank pulley has to come off
And you have to put it all back together to try it out.
Anyway, took it all apart and removed the 'absolutely' bit.
Now she's all apples.

Aaaanyway, time to fix the chunes.
For fathers day my family bought me a new head unit
Image

oOooh trendy. The important bit being this.
Image

As she is now...
Image

2 screws behind the ashtray
Image

And one above the ciggie lighter(oops, politically incorrect) utility power point.
Image

and the surround is out
Image

4 screws for the bracket, 2 here
Image

And 2 underneath
Image

And out she comes
Image

Unplug all this crap and she's out
Image

The bracket holes lined up perfectly with the screwholes in the new unit
Image

Trial fit. I wanted to use the surround out of my old car because it has a sunglass holder drawer thingy.
For the coolest sunglasses ever made......
The mirror Aviator
Image

Unfortunately, wont fit with the bracket, and I hate cutting things ...
Image

And this is just too big a hole....
Image

So I removed the tape deck part
Image

Put the original radio back(to fill in the gap) and voila!
Image

Put the old surround back and it fits almost perfectly
Image

Just a small gap on one side
Image

So I hooked up all the wiring and.........

it didn't work.
Seems old systems have a common earth on the speakers, which was fine when you had 3.7 watts per channel RMS, but it fails a bit when you are punching 52 watts per channel.
So I had to rewire all the speakers.
I had the shits a bit so didn't take any pics.

Anyway, next installment:- amp and sub. Doof Doof Doof Doof (etc, etc)

I don't envy the job of replacing cambelts.

though a RB is fairly straightforward I suppose. sure doesn't have a patch on my mate's Alfa 147GTA which he did the cambelt on recently. you know it's gonna be fun times when it's

a) transverse,
b) V6
and c) Italian...

Hey Hooks,

Not related to your stereo install at all, more related to page 3 of your build-up. I'm going to paint my autospoiler and I'm wondering what the paint code is for that grey? While you are at it, can you remember the paint code for the black as well. As you can probably gather, my car is the same two tone as yours, not that I'm trying to copy you at all.... :D

I have the codes around somewhere. I'll have a look.
I actually just rocked up to one of those paint matching joints and gave them the code off the build plate.
He looked it up and gave me the black straight up.
He mixed up a batch, added a bit more metallic to match the fuel filler flap I had, and made 2 pressure packs for me.
There is 2 greys they used for this particular 2 tone.
So you'll have to take some bit of bodywork if you do the same thing.

Another thing- when you are finished spraying it and it's dry, get some of that clear plastic protector stuff and stick it on.
They pick up stonechips like a bastard, and watch out for those concrete douvres they put in car parks,(or any front in parking) they scratch autospoilers to hell.
Especially if you've lowered it a bit.

Yes, probably a good idea to go to an automotive paint matching place. What do you mean there are two greys? Do you mean there are two different greys depending on the car model/year, or are there two greys on each car? Or are you just messing with my mind...?

The only codes on the VIN tag that look likely to be paint codes are 543 G - does that mean 543 is the metallic black code and the G is the Grey?

Thanks for the tip on the protector strip.

That is the correct code for a 2 tone black and grey HR31.
When the paintshop guy looked it up it was 1 metallic black and 2 greys.
Pick the one that matches your car.

How about no.
How about you do it and I stay home and drink Bourbon and cola.
Actually, bout time I got the spanners out again.
Got a track day coming up in January so will need a spanner check and a brake bleed at least.
Got an intermittant miss too.
That'll be a coil pack.
I'll do that when I change the plugs.
