I guess the plan for now is to someday swap in either a 20r, or a 22r. As it sits it has a 21r with a weber 2 barrel progressive carb, but this engine has like 400k miles on it, so I think the car deserves a new one.
I'm not planning much farther ahead than that, but I'm sure I will end up spending way more money on this car than I should =P.

Very nice celica man. yeah 400k is pushing for the engine. id go with a 20r/22r hybrid with dual sidedraft carbs or a 22re/22rte if you want fuel injected :tu:

Thanks man! Yeah I'm not really sure what to put in there, I know that parts for 22r's are probably more abundant than 20r's. what would be the upside to a 20r/22r combo? and which block gets used (I'm assuming 22r block and 20r head to make higher compression?)

you are correct you use the early 22r block with a 20r head because the 20r head flows better than 22r head design. alot of 20r and 22r parts are interchangeable. you should join the 1stgencelica.com forum. its a great site for these old celica. im on there as well. i have a 73 RA21 celica with a 22re :D
