 Post subject: new guy, 81 corolla wtf did i just do?

so i got an 1981 corolla that i really didn't need but wanted.
2 door
got the 1.8l 3tc?
any ways i am completely new to classic jap cars and these.
i love mazda's and rotaries.
i also love simple and basic cars, hence the 81.
but i could use some education on what i got myself into.
so any info and aftermarket support links would be greatly appreciated.
and now the ?'s
how reliable is this engine.
is there a fuel injected version or easy swap?
cheap upgrades?

also what is the curb weight on these?
they seem so light they could be blown away.

Curb weight is just a tad heavier than you might think but not unbearable. My last 81 was a coupe and at the grain silo scales it weighed 1964 lbs. The 3tc is pretty reliable but are prone (at least ime) to oiling issues. Blueprinting the oilpump during a rebuild is a must. They will make nice power pretty easily and aftermarket support is pretty good still.

FI is expensive and imo only worth it if you are going turbo.

what do you mean blueprinting the oil pump?

i just wonder about because i live in denver and drive around a lot and change altitude a lot.
so would fi be better suited for that?
or can a carb handle it fine?
i know nothing of carbs really.

Well for carbs wise you will do just fine in Denver. If you have a high altitude kit installed on your car then there shouldn't be any issues, otherwise if anything I forget the town south of there my dad used to go to when we lived in Denver, but he would drive down there to adjust the carb by using a vac gauge.

how do I tell if it has a high altitude kit on it or not?

there should be a sticker or tag under the hood that will point it out, it will prolly be part of the vacuum line diagram
