While the Oji
-san market for the somewhat kakoii
, limited run, suicide-doored, mostly gray & black, Crown-platform, Origin is perhaps apparent, does anyone know about this beast:
Two-toned, and ugly in the extreme, I've got no idea how many were made, when, or why. I can recall only seeing a very limited number running around Shibuya and Ginza... Neko.
This car is the Toyota Classic. It was built in 1996 as part of the 60th anniversary of Toyota in commemoration of the original Model AA from 1936. Only 100 were made or sold. You can usually find one or two for sale in Japan...
As Robakun mentioned, one is located at the Toyota USA Automobile Museum, in Torrance.
It is NOT a Toyoda AA replica
. The Toyoda Model AA replica is in Japan, at the Toyota Automobile Museum, and is for all intense purposes an exact replica of the original AA. This multi-toned monstrosity is a commemorative, modern equipted, tip-of-the-hat to the original AA.
Personally, I think it is worse looking in person.
BTW, the Origin was made to commemorate Toyota's passing the 100 million unit production milestone. To the best of my knowledge, it went on sale in November 2000, and something like only 1000 +/- were built.
