There is a new show that premiered last night i believe {i caught a repeat at midnight} called Samurai. It features the American Iron Chef chairman traveling japan and retracing the steps of the famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi. All in all it's an ok show, i like the clips of classic movies spliced in. But what i really like was in one of the first scenes they pick him up in a Toyota Century! It looks to be in perfect shape, stock form. I almost chocked when i saw it thinking it was a Crown. They should be repeating the show about 50 times this week, as is the way of cable networks. You can see it within the first 10 minutes of the show. I tried to find a screenshot, but i can come up with is our classic JCCS century for refereance. It looked like this one but stock wheels/ride height of course. I wonder if you can just call them up and ask for a gangsta looking nostalgic to be escorted in.

Anyone else catch it?

I watched it last night as well. I love seeing all the fender mirrors on cars out there!

Badass show, BTW.

FYI, the Century only had minor changes in the look of it from 1967 to 1997. So that may not really be a "nostalgic" Century.

what is the year that they ended the continuous narrow chrome trim at the bottom of the doors and over the wheel arches from bumper to bumper? it looks almost like the 67 example

Actually it is an older Century, it has the large chrome bumpers whereas the newer ones had smaller bumpers with less chrome.

That is really cool Toyota continued with the old style on the Century for 30 years. I can't think of any other car like that, besides things like the jeep/beetle. Surly no luxury car ever stuck to a style for that long.

I think the newer ones may have came both ways. I've seen mid-90s Centurys with full chrome bumpers, too.

Honestly, I hope it IS the older Century. That would be much cooler. 8)

The Jeep CJ7 is probably the only one that kept it that long or longer. The Lexus LS400 kept the same basic body for about 11-12 years. And the Jaguar XJ6/XJ8/XJ12 kept the same basic body/look from 1979 to 2003.

MGB was virtually the same from 1962-1980, save for bumpers, ride height, and in the US, induction changes, as well as the inevitable interior trim/color/striping changes. :tu:

Damn right. No cliche that. The guy that was helped out of the back of this one was missing two knuckles. That be some atonement. As his helper / bag-man hustled him up the Dogenzaka, I feigned disinterest until they passed in an attempt to capture that hachi-hachi Yak feel...

Though black is black, battleship-gray with doily curtains is pretty damn kakoii too. If not for Yaks, but the corporate types perhaps. Neko.

On the way to work last week:

While Century are quite common (I would see four or five a day), the long wheelbase model is not. Quite an exclusive ride, in this case most likely some Yak dude, as they chased me after the driver saw me with a camera in my hand. Neko.

Any Century is a cool Century, but yeah, the older the cooler.

Ah, the long wheelbase is nice.

More... Century's in the wild.

As Kuroneko mentioned, they are quite common. While in Tokyo and Yokohama I'd see several a day.
