 Post subject: New Calif. fuel nozzles = Can't put gas in my '77 Toyota!

Hi everyone,

I have a beautiful 1977 Toyota Corolla wagon (45k miles by the way) which I've just imported into California from Colorado. In the past year, all California gas stations have had to install a new kind of fuel pump nozzle, much shorter than before. On first trying to pump gas into my car, I found that the nozzle could not reach as far as the gas-tank-neck. It is not a matter of pulling back on the rubber thing, or trying to make an air lock -- the nozzle just won't reach into the right hole.

Has anyone encountered this problem, and if so, have you found a solution?

You might try a funnel such as the ones you would use to add oil. :tu:

Thanks! My mechanic is making inquiries, but nothing found so far! Local Toyota dealership was also mystified!

Our nozzle extender is designed to eliminate the problems encountered when refueling at pumps with vapor recovery nozzles. The extender is made from surgical tubing that is flared at one end to slip over and seal on the gas pump nozzle, allowing you to refuel and keep the recovery part of the gas pump nozzle away from your fuel door. Approx. length 5".


It might work. It does on a buddies car. A 1976 SR5 in Long Beach.

I had this problem with my old wagon. I just rotated the nozzle upside down and filled it that way. I could never pull the lever to full open, so refueling always took an extra mintue or so. But it was easy enough to get the job done.

sorry to hear about the problem.

If worst comes to worst, you have to refill using Jerry cans (with a long flexi spout)
