For all those awaiting new Toyota Sports Models,
here is the good news- a new Division has been established:
Sport Vehicle Management Division

they took way our F1, but gave us a new program!

so the Levins, Trueno, Celicas, MR2, and Supra will be recreated, spearheaded by the LFA (just like the 2000GT !!!)

Happy New Year!

Any legit sources for this information, or just word-of-mouth/rumors?

one of the problems Toyota has is that it has gotten so big....

a couple of years ago they were trying to emulate Chrysler organization and marketing (before the joint venture with Mercedes) !!

marketing people overuled engineering- and they concentrated in moving sales #s: cars became bland, homogenized, and devoid of character
to do this they had to hit the mass market- different versions of Corollas and Camrys; then the SUV hit- and Toyota made all sorts of SUVs...

sporty models were eventually dropped to enhance the buttom line

even before the new President Akio, the movement was already underway...

four years ago Toyota established the Historic Racing Group- and they realized that there was active Toyota motorsport involvement in the early years-
the 2000GTs and Group 7 cars, the 70's Celicas and Corolla

this raised the profile of Toyota from an unquantified and obscure Asian manufacturer to a "technology driven" upstart. Naturally SE Asia was first witness with TOM's and of course Europe with TTE

they knew they had to race to get noticed... and they needed sporty engines and chassis... lately they rediscovered the value of the beloved twin cam and turbo models... real performance engines

a late and awkward awakening...

they brought out Scion- but the cars were not sporty enough
and the Korean threat is expanding...

Toyota's shock and awe- the LFA
their weapons of mass destruction- Celica, Levin/Trueno, MR2/S, and Supra !!
