 Post subject: Fast idle problem

I've noticed that the engine (18r-c) seems to be idling higher than usual, I've tried to tweak the idle screw but to no avail. I suspected an exhaust leak somewhere but the engine does sound like its recieving more fuel at idle. Does anyone have any similar experience? Any help appreciated

Sounds like choke problems to me? Are you sure the choke is opening all the way after it warms up?

The choke is definitely opening all the way after the engines warm.
Would the choke then be partially closed the next time it starts (cold start)?

The engine is now stuttering when I try to turn it off. It sounds like its firing really slowly or just running on a cylinder.

Apart from all this though, the car goes fine from idle

upon release, the choke doesn't settle to fully close, is this normal?

I'm experience weird engine shut down. After a decent drive the engine doesn't shut off instantly, it continues to stutter for a while before turning off.

Your engine maybe 'dieseling' son. Does it continue to run after you have turned the key off? If that is the case, it is dieseling. Check this link for some causes and cures.

thanks Okie, I'll have to look into these causes

it seems that the high idle may be the cause of the dieseling

Ok, The problem was that the fast idle cam was sticking due to grease and dirt. Took it to my carb guy to take it apart and clean it out.
Solved the dieseling problem aswell

My Corona seems to be doing the same thing.. and mine has the 22R. After you give it a quick kickdown, it runs normal. 8)
