Maybe he'll pipe up if not try PMing Ohcandad_00 He is the man when it comes to car cleaners and protectors at Griotsgarage. Check the website they have some really good and enviromental safe products(if your into that stuff) www.griotsgarage.com. I spent the other week helping detail a SW21 MR2 back from supra red 2 pink back to better than show room red. Sorry for sounding like an ad. I just really like the product and I don't even work there yet!

I wanted this car ever since my RA21 was sold in late 80's.
was on the look out for years and found few but over priced and not
in good condition. When I saw this one I jumped on it and I am very very please with what I have. :tu:

Notice the blue plates?

Went over to Pertano's to have the timing and wires sorted out.
got the tool kit/decklid template and toyota metal frame. :tu:

Ben,

I was only messing with stationwagon guy :D and yes I am going to keep it stock, I am told that it has new head work/tires/clutch/breaks work done recently.

What is the best way to protect dash from cracking?
Like I said dash is in mint condition and I want to make sure it stays that way. Should I get a cover for it and hope for the best?

Thanks everyone for appreciating it.

Keep it away from sunligh and very hot/cold weather. Use a silicone spray to protect the plastic and avoid agressive cleanig products. If possible just use tap water to clean it.

Keep it stock. for me, IT will be always the best solution because these are the cars that will value in the future!
By the way, YOU ARE A VERY LUCKY GUY!

Thanks RSilva,

I cleaned the interior some more with water and woollite (seat fabric).
next would be to order molded carpet and make rare deck plate?
Center console has its silver plastic paint faded and in some places its gone. Anyone know what kinda paint I could use?

Well that painted plastic is a big problem if it's crhome plated - I had the same problem. You can chrome plastic but the problem is that the whole piece must go to the chrome bath. Because the chrome pieces are heat glue to the rest of the console that´s impossible. Another option isto to paint those surfaces with a chrome efect paint but it will always seem fake .

By the way, could you help me check what's the paint code on the VIN plate?
Thanks!

Tell me how to read color code and I'll look it up.

Okay sure! Look for the VIN plate in the engine bay. When you find it, look at COLOR/TRIM, it should be a 3-digit number... Thanks!

on a different note I have some surface rust coming up and wanted to know what can be done short of repainting. Anyone tried CLR? or something similar?

Yeah, that looks more like the specs for the engine. But thanks for taking the pictures anyway. Appreciate the effort.

For temporary measure, I'd just sand away the rusted bits and slap on some rust-converter. It turns the metal black in color but prevents the rust from spreading.

Eastwood makes great rust-killing and protective products. If it's rusting, you're not going to be able to save the paint, so like he ^ said, just put some rust converter on it for now to protect it. I like Eastwood's stuff, but they sell similar products all over.

CLR is about totally worthless unless we're talking minor household stuff. I tried messing with it years ago, it's never worked on anything I had automotive or bicycle related. In fact, I've never actually gotten it to work on anything except cleaning coffee pots and faucet heads.

Ordered some Eastwood rust converter from ebay tonight.
Made my rare deck lid from the template I got from Pertano off a 73-74 celica and it turned out awesome IMHO.

Things I am going to fix on the car.

1, Polish/buff all chrome moldings and bumpers.

2, Paint front bumper filler to OEM color.

3, New Carpet.

4, Replace all bulbs to LED replacement bulbs.

5, Convert/charge AC.

6, Replace front strut tower top hat?

Does it really need repainting? I looks pretty good and it's only original once :)

I wouldn't paint it. But that's just me. I really like the way the car looks now. It's got a nice original "WORN IN" look to it.
