If you were willing to think a little outside of the box, there's always turbo Dodge 2.2/2.5s. Toss a Neon dual cam head on it, or even build a 2.4 turbo motor. You can make them rwd fairly easily. :tu:

wasnt there a factory 20R motor with EFI? Surely you could inject and turbo it on the cheap using cheap second hand parts?

22R-E, 22R-TE (turbo)

But why? 3RZ-FE is already 150HP and 177LB-FT stock and overall, a much better engine. 4 valves per cylinder, greatly improved port design, better manifolding, and a strong block already proven over 750HP if aggresively turbocharged.

The early ones have split intake runners, late have a single port.

I am with everyone else on the 3RZ motor. My wife's T100 2wd came with one, very sweet motor. I would just find a smashed up Tacoma or 2wd T100 and yank the motor and trans together. Hell you might be able to get the motor, tranny, ecu and wiring for about 1500 or less.
