Hey guys just me again... i have a few question about these older setups... im new to carbs but not engines so bare with me.

1. Ok i have come to conclusion that my ignitor has gone on vacation. New ones are very expensive. Just wondering if a Ignition control module and an ignitor are the same thing? O'reillys has a ICM for my car but not a ignitor and its of solid state type ($170ish).

2. Can i replace the ignitor with an MSD ignition. I really dont want to go this way due to the fact im trying to keep the tunning oldschool. Flashy red electronics dont do justice for me.

regards,
Hogie

What kind of car are you dealing with here. Simple attack is to just pull one from a wrecking yard. Or replace it with and MSD or other aftermarket ignition setup. You can get a PRO-COMP "MSD KNOCKOFF" for cheap or even the accel setups are inexpensive.

yes you can use a msd box to get rid of the ignitor on the old 3tc boards i had a sticky on how to hook one up bypassing the ignitor or you can get a HEI module and hook it up the same way

update on the issue

Ok well i replaced the coil, pick-up coil, cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs... nothing

its started up and ran great for a few minute after the new wires and plugs then got worse and worse...

the dizzy shaft seems to come up too far and the rotor will melt the plastic on the cap i had to shave the rotor down so it would slide on further so it will not make direct contact with the plastic on th cap and only the little terminal and the shaft seems to have ecsessive play in it

now it runns but misfires. then it will go to fire on only one cylinder for a few minutes back to firing on a few then back to one

its getting very stressful

only other things it can be that i can think of are ignition switch, crack in dizzy shaft, or igniter

all input is welcone thank you
