Yes,they where always very popular here, and the popularity continued when the Avensis took over.I remember the first generation was one of my favourite cars when I was a little boy (born in 1971),although I can't recall ever seeing a hatdtop model.

Love the 3SGE Carina. We never got that car, love the colour/shape and the engine transplant. Well done

Welcome to JNC.

Thank you, sedans were common, now those are mostly rusted away. Hardtop is JDM and I really believe that mine is only one in europe. I have seen pics of other HT´s outside Japan. One is in Australia, TA3* series HT (facelift model, which came around 1976, longer wheelbase etc) and one TA or RA1* GT have been in russia in 1984, seen picture of that.
That is my dream car, I searched it over 15 years, before I got it.

thanks, brown HT came like that, from japan last year. 14" watanabes, otherwise stock.
That green one I bought as 140000km driven, completely stock in 1999. I first thought to keep it that way. Then I tried how it would look with 15" alloys and then I lowered it a little. After those things it started to slide to the dark side :)
Via internet, I "met" one friend from states who send me red taillaights to replace those european amber/red and then little bit this and that. 2003 I bought Altezza frontcut from maleysia and 2004 I had engine, transmission and brakes swapped from that to carina. First in 2004 it looked like this, before brakes swap:
http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img218589.jpg
But because of 296mm front and 300mm rear discbrakes I had to go to 15" wheels again. Let´s see what future brings to it.

Thank you.
Hardtop was JDM only, sedans (or coupe as you said) were sold in U.S 72-73.

I spotted this example outside a used car showroom; must be the only one left in malta. Asking price is around EUR1150.

That one is in quite solid condition, only little scratches in front and in drivers door. That also is imported to malaysia afterwards I think. I have let myself understood that it was JDM only.
Now I know that atleast
1 HT is in Finland
1 HT is in Malaysia
1 HT is in Australia (TA30 series, longer wheelbase, otherwise same)
1 HT is / was in Russia
and I hope there are several survivors still in Japan :)

Thanks of that picture.
