Changed the subject - I am not going to lower it anyway. It's too nice.
Loads of history to follow.

Hey Per,

It's great to see you here on JNC. And a massive CONGRATS with your beautiful MS55!! :tu:
I know that car as I actually considered buying it myself several years back when it was last for sale. Sadly I didn't have the coin at the time... But she is truly stunning!! 8)
Here's a pic of her at Kastellet in Copenhagen back in 2009:

I must admit that I'm pretty damned envious of you! I would have loved to add that Crown to my garage.
Take good care of her mate!! And please spoil us with more pics...

Okay – the short story. Registered first time in Denmark on April 6, 1970.
Same owner until 1992 when he passes away and the widow keeps the car.
In 2005 it has two woners and in 2007 it is ’imported’ to Copenhagen from Fynen in another corner of Denmark. Previous owner buys the car as part of his colection of black classics with red interiors and keeps it for around 4 years until I take over the keys a week ago.
It has only done 96.512 kilomteres – the first owner had the engine reconditioned at 58.000 kilometers which basically means that it has covered less than 2.000 kilometers per year over the past 20 years.

And the regular Saturday morning meet at Olivers Coffee Bar - a petrol station designed by our renowned Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. In this picture the Crown is popular, despite sunny weather and grown up men - plenty of space in there ...

Such a beauty!! 8)
Mint condition and that exterior / interior colour combo is nothing short of stunning...
Those intricately detailed wing mirrors have just got to be one of the most beautifully designed mirrors in automotive history. Love the way the ribs in the wing mirrors are repeated in both the wrap-around front grill and the great C-pillar Crown badges.
Per, I'm very much looking forward to seeing this Crown in the flesh again when I'm back in Denmark again this summer... ;-)

Thx Anders. And indeed - she is a beauty. And 10 points for picking up on the design details that apparently are well thought through in the car. I particularly like the subtle hip swing just at the rear door. It's almost as if the American designers were inspired by the larger than life detailing in their car designs, where the Japanese are much more delicate and understated. Parallel to the female gender, maybe ...?

Planning some things to do with the car. Not all decided, so I guess it's sort of a dream wish list.
1. Need to find a good solution for the rear end diff ratio, alternative a five speed with an overdrive on fifth. But what is the most straightforward way to go about it and which gearbox of the W range will fit without too many changes, especially the interior?
2. Need venetians for the rear window - found some on e-bay, but they cost a fortune to ship via regular channels.
3. I've seen some cool wind deflectors on front and rear doors in stainless steel (or chrome) - any ideas of whether they can be sourced NOS or second hand?
4. Last but not least, want to keep the car as original as possible - but. Would also like to swap the springs for a set of lowering springs. The cars do look cool when they are lowered an inch or two. But what springs to use? And when lowering, do I need to change the shocks - they are in great condition.

Sounds like a plan - I'd really appreciate any input or links or contacts.

Yeah

P

There is much interest in Crowns here in Australia. I strongly recommend you join the Toymods forum (Australian based) which holds a lot of expertise from some really helpful guys.

I lowered mine ages ago with new standard shocks and it's fine. Doesn't bottom out or rub anywhere, speed humps can be an issue with the exhaust if you go as low as mine though.

If you want to know what springs I used shoot me a message.

I've looked at your Crown several times and it really looks great - colour, ride height, interior - everything. Would make a good pair - ebony and ivory ...
