Yep, still under construction - those headlights are Hella I'm fairly sure, I'll have to check if they're the same all round but the inside two have bits of rust at the bottom but the outers are fine - a detail for later on.
So this was what we started with;Rear right lower quarterPassenger side runoffDrivers side roof
So after a lot of saving my pennies it went off to the guys at Blue Dog Garage (https://www.facebook.com/BlueDogGarage?ref=ts&fref=ts
) for some TLC. The guys know their early Toyotas backwards - I thought I was excessive at 6 cars, the owner of Blue Dog has over 120! A mixture of Aussie and American muscle cars and dozens of crowns, celicas and ronas. Also dogs. 12 somewhat deaf blue heelers at last count, all rescues. The RT72 is in good hands.
This was the first step; removing 18 layers of body filler
I have no idea what this poor car went through in it's earlier life but I'm surprised it didn't collapse under the weight of THE BOG. I mean sweet velociraptor jesus, it was over 20mm thick in places! Whoever did it actually welded a rod in under the roof to support the weight!
Fortunately it doesn't look like it was rolled, the pillars are too clean, but it would appear that the roof had something dropped on it or someone jumped on it and then it was left to rust.Passenger side uncovered

They'd actually already patched in a few holes in the centre of the roof with plate and have done an awesome job getting it back into shape.
The one other secret the strip down unearthed was the original colour...
Pale yellow. I'd hoped after pulling the seats that it was an old, dirtied up original white but no, it was yellow. So that's my latest food for thought, what colour do I go with? I liked the blue, but it was a domestic Ford metallic that didn't really match the 70's styling so was planning on the original blue until I saw the white - white works with anything, awesome wheel options, interior is already black, I'd like another white car. The quandary is that as a collectible originality adds value...that said it's a terrible shade of yellow - the Belatrix Yellow on the 2000GT; that's a nice yellow, I could live with that yellow....pale yellow....? http://www.toyotareference.com/coronamkii/1969-1972
I'm open to some thoughts on this - the MX22 was originally that browny gold...am I destined to drive poo coloured cars?
And I've convinced myself that the RA23 is a lost cause and doesn't need it's twin solex 18RG anymore.... so that'll be the next adventure
