hi I'm new to the forum. i live in las vegas NV. I'm buying a 1981 corolla 2 door sedan 1.8L for $250. the car has sat for a long time but fired right up and stopped smoking after a few seconds. the interior is shot and the car is pretty ugly. i would like to use it as a commuter as i fix it up. i love the way these cars look when slammed and fixed up.

is there any known common problems with these cars?
any good place to get parts?
also what is the best way to slam this car?

commons problems I would assume would be the same as any older car :

rust
old rubber that needs replacing
rotted radiator
brakes and rubber hoses old and cracked
old fluids that need changed
and old deteriorating wiring
and worn suspension components

I just glanced at our import supplier website and most common service parts ie:brakes, cooling components, hoses, cooling system stuff seem to be redily avaliable

the quickest way to slam the car would be to cut the springs, but probably not the "best"

ask no more questions til you look there.

Oh and here is a little inspiration for you.

These TE72's are my favorite cars. I've had about 7 of them.

If you know Joaquin then you know this car. I sold it to him a year or so ago. Very fun little car. I regret selling it. That motor in that little car would pull a house.

no its red fading into primer on top. it was never listed just had 4-sale sign in window for $250 so i immediately gave her some cash to take the sign out. i don't even have the car home yet and people are hitting me up to sell it. i have canceled every thing for this weekend and will start taring into it tonight and work on her all weekend. im really existed because it looks like i can afford parts for it unlike my other car (87 supra). why dose the price go up so much the second you and 4 a supra to any part?

just to let everyone know i have always liked Toyota's. when i got my DL first car i got was 85 toy pickup. then i got a 87 pickup. i still have both + i have a 90 pickup thats all caged and set up for off road and mega-squirted. i picked up the supra in 02 and it got a rod knock with in 2 months. not its fault i was not nice to it. the supra just sits in the garage waiting for me to get rich. i have slowly got parts for it but nothing to fix the rod knock. i have 61mm t4 turbo, big front mount intercooler, header, 50mm wastegate, and 50mm blow-off. but its on hold tell i can afford fuel and management parts + bullet proof long block.

i hope to make a nice budget driver out of the corolla. probably only do carbs and header. lowering is a must and after seeing how good draglites look going to need a set of them.

sorry about for the delay. i didn't stop playing with it long enough to snap the pics. it was really dirty, i could not see out the windows. it got hit on the driver side front. i got the big dent out but its still ripely. the impact broke the running light cover, the head light covering, and riped the bumper. at some point the hood latch broke so it was removed and replaced by locking hood pins. the hood pin key got lost so they messed up the hood and broke the grill getting it open. it was shut with rope some how i got lucky and one off the old 85 pickup fit close enough to latch but i need some kind of spring to get it to pop. all and all its very nice 4 250. NO rust at all, im supper happy.

Very nice!!!!

What's the deal with the Pinto. Doesn't look like a 4 cylinder anymore. I hope it still bleeds blue.

I was gonna say...whoa that Pinto has some meaty back tires! :) There's a dude that drives a really cherry copper colored one into where I work almost every weekend. I was surprised how excited I was to see a Pinto. :D
