Just picked up a 1974 Celica GT (RA21) in December last year. Car was advertised on CL local to NJ. The seller claimed that he purchased it from the original owner's son and never transferred the title over. The odometer had 43,xxx displayed on it, and based on the condition of the car, one can believe that it is truly 43,xxx and not x43,xxx. In addition, the original owner had some hand written maintenance records tucked away in the glove box, as well as several sets of spark plugs, which were placed in manila envelopes with the mileage at which they were removed.
The car is in original condition and has not been molested/modded. The interior is in great shape, aside from a 1" tear on the driver side seat. The only rust found so far has been at the bottom of the fenders, which will need repair. I believe this rust was caused by sawdust (found in the engine bay, and cowl area), which may have been washed down the cowl drains, and retained moisture over time behind the fender area.
The paint appears to be original, and does not show any signs of previous repairs/repaints. Consultation with a restoration specialist is needed to see if the repair can be made without repainting. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Since purchase, I have picked up a bunch of new parts, and a set of 15x7 0-offset Panasports.
