Hey guys, Its been almost a year now since i bought my 73 ST, and I haven't started my project thread yet, because there hadn't been much of a project to speak of. But were moving quick now so Im gonna try and document as best i can. so here goes!

So, our little friend here started life as two cars as far as I know, and 1973 and 74, respectively. I think mostly the 73, at least the VIN anyway! Previous owner could not find a celica in the condition he wanted it in, so he decided to build one. Its got a 4 Speed and an 18R-C, what look to be the original seats with the dragon emblems on them, and damned near no interior.

Here he is with the only mod so far, amber high beams.

Lots of plans for this one! lets start with what im currently knee deep in, the suspension.

Front struts have been pulled, as well as rear springs and shocks. LCA, UCA and Lateral Link Bushings were all shot so I pulled those too.

Replaced all the bushings, thank god I have a friend with a press! Installed 5x11 Black Magic Springs and Camaro shocks in the rear.

Looks a little lower than when I got it, but will have to wait until the front is sorted out to figure out if i need to cut a coil off. I'm hoping not.

Next update, front coilovers ;)

Finished the front suspension, and then promptly went on vacation for two weeks and forgot to post a single picture! Better late than never I suppose

It's awesome to have friends who can weld, heres Alex cutting the spring perches off the front struts.

Image

welding the struts back together after taking 40mm so they will fit shorter strut inserts.

Image

Comparing the new weld with the stock, looks good!

Image

We welded on a new spring perch, painted the struts and and installed the coilover kit,

Need better pics of the finished product, but she's sitting nice and low now. And I didn't even have to cut the new rear springs, which I'm happy about.

Fantastic! Keep us posted.

Where did you get the amber high beams?

I also have an E28. Used to have a '77 GT liftback too. Great cars

Hey giving this thread some life again ( I know its not been too long) What year Camaro shocks did you use? 3rd gen? I think that's what I used on my corolla. I just got myself a 76 celica and looking into shocks for the rear. So I hope its the 3rd gen. Plenty of those piles at the junk yard lol.

I think it was third gen, but I cannot remember. I think anything from 89 through like 02 will work, and are dirt cheap even new on rock auto.

yup, pretty much the quick and dirty option for any SRA toyota. I confuse the counter guys when I go in for shocks.
"I need 3rd gen camaro shocks"
"what year camaro?'
"76 celica..."
"I didn't know GM made the celica?"

I do the same thing. Camaro rears on the rear and SW20 rears on my front. cressida... bla bla bla

Not to steal your thunder, but they're already confused.

Want to really have some fun at oriellyzone...
Go in your shop and find a very interesting looking part, one that can be easily concealed in your hand and preferably shiny and custom made(billet rockers work great). Next bring your "part" inside the oriellyzone, but don't let the gorilla completely see what you have. They should respond to you with something like "what ya got there" or "lemme see what you got". Next, ignore them and proceed to ask for a part that you're really looking for, giving them every bit of vehicle specific info available for the part that likely interchanges among all generations of the vehicle in question. While doing this be sure to play with the part in your hand, barely allowing them to see a tiny detail, without revealing what it is you have. It will drive them absolutely crazy.

So, not to thread jack.... 4th gen fbody bilsteins hd's are nice and you can get a pair for under $200. May be a bit much for a coupe, really depends on your spring rate.
