Where To Send A Complete 2TG Engine For 200HP Re-build??

What about the toystore,lots of good info on there website?

No turbo or EFI just 2 -45 webers,so maybe 170HP?

Is your engine currently a stock 2TG? There are some Toyota high performance heads (known part #s) do you have one? Do you have any of the associated performance parts? Cams, valves, springs, pistons? What is your budget?

Ya right I'll have to come up with more of a plan.And do some more research.
My engine is stock cams and valves with pauter rods all I know.

200hp is a big ask from an 8v 1600cc engine.

~170hp is what a race motor could do from that era. Not very streetable.

In this quest, displacement is your ally.

Swap to an 18RG? 20v 4AGE swap?

If you're stuck with the 2TG, then the recipe is always the same for N/A build; high compression, big cams, high volume flowing cyl head.

I would not worry about the HP. My preferred set up would be

44 Mikunis
TRD Header (Not Philippine copy... if you know what I mean)
1750cc Pistons @ 10.5 or 11 compression
288 Intake 272 Exhaust cams
Appropriate port work
Light flywheel

The 1750 revs more and is lively compared to the stroked 2000. Of course ultimate displacement is where all the HP is but its all about having fun and 1750 is where it is at IMO.

Interesting thread!
Sorry if I'm highjacking a bit here, but my 2T-G is with the stock Bosch EFi system - thereby it is of course a 2T-GEU.
Would this limit me if I were to start tuning my engine??
I'd like to keep it injected as that's how it left the factory, just as I don't want to do anything that wouldn't have been done in period. Currently the whole engine is stock, so should be producing around 110hp. There's a complete Fujitsubo Giken stainless steel 4-branch manifold and sports exhaust system, but otherwise all is stock.
Which options would I have?? I don't need massive hp as it still want it to be streetable. Perhaps an increase to 130 - 140hp or thereabouts...

I've never done this so I am just speculating but since you already have EFI, why not convert it to IRTBs? Seems like you already have most of the necessary sensors and the ECU so it should be not too hard?

But frankly, nothing beats the music of a Toyota "G" engine with side drafts at WOT... :mrgreen:

I know that you have not given up on your goal of 200 plus horsepower, correct?

Normally with good full compression maybe 115 Horsepower, How do you squeeze and additional 85 Horse power out of this build without forced induction? Use a different block, from 2T to 3T or 3Y?

I was looking at an old build to have a 2000 cc 2TG full race and it was only rated at 170 PS. or 167.606 HP. Maybe the addition reduction in weight wil allow you to gain maybe 5 HP more for a super light flywheel and a knife edged 3T or 3Y crank with C.D.I. ignition or what ever is the equivalent to a MSD crank trigger. extrude hone the head for better flow and a better fuel delivery system, and you may be close to your goal without force induction. :tu:

3Y bottom is almost usable with TG head...

Had to re done all timing cover rear panels etc... And no anything extra from that.
4Y bottom with stroking, then maybe yes, 86 stroke + big piston +higher block. But A LOT work & custom part manufacturing.


3T bottom with high comp forged pistons + rod kit+ 304/288 highlift cam and good porting will go to ~200hp area. With matched exhaust and when its well tuned. But depends a lot from porting !!! And yes its quite well streetable. With harder ex cam it gives more hp but fastly loose the torgue at the bottom.

With just DIY ported head (cast edges cleaned) and HKS/TRD 304/288 its around 25hp less than high lift setup and better porting.

I will recommend to use 3T bottom.

3Y Was a factory option for Townace. 4Y Was for Hilux, if My memory is Right.

Some questions for the OP.

1. Can you get aftermarket, forged pistons?
2. What would you be using for intake system? (carbs, EFI?)
3. Can you get aftermarket camshafts for that motor?
