Any suggestions for swapping out the woodgrain T shifter on a Cressida? It has the side button to select gears, not sure if it will be an easy swap...thanks.

I think it's held on with a allen screw.

It's held on with a small allen bolt. I've taken mine off before, they are pretty straightforward. Only thing is to make sure that the plastic tab underneath, which controls the shift lock, doesn't get spun around while you to the change. If it gets turned around it apparently adjusts the shift lock. I did that to mine and getting it to shift into park was almost impossible, I had to take the knob back off and re-adjust it.

Thanks guys, sounds straight forward, never took off a auto/button knob before...what I wanted to know is what did you guys swap it with? I wanna keep it kinda retro, but move away from the 'T' look, maybe a top button? Thanks.

I actually didn't swap mine out, I only removed it to replace a damaged piece of the console. I'm keeping with an all classic look so to wood shifter works for what I'm after. What options are you looking at, specifically?

haha, yeah, the faux wood plastic does has an aire of richness! :D I'm gonna do a full kustom interior, so maybe a metalflake steering wheel and a ball shift knob with top button...maybe 8 ball?

Finally found an auto adapter to convert the side button to top push down. It had a huge brass threaded fitting, I guess for domestic ball knobs. Had to drill out and tap in a smaller metric for my tall crystal knob. The plunger had to be cut down as the adapter sat too high. The skinny threaded rod inside the chrome shifter shaft was wiggling, made worse by the heavy and tall knob. Several trips to the hardware store, found various nylon and plastic sleeves and caps...took some work, but I was able to stabilize the rod and adapter movement. Works great and looks much better than the old faux wood T handle.
