Please help me tune my car

I am not a mechanic by trade so I am learning as I go. It is a 1976 corolla 1.6.

So far I have:
-Rebuilt asian 2 barrel carb
-replaced vacuum lines
-re gasketed all intake and exhaust gaskets (including ones on intake)
-new cap, rotor, points
-fixed all holes in exhaust
-adjusted valves

When I got this car it didn't idle below 2k rpm. It is much better now, but something isn't right. Please listen to the videos and leave feedback.

This is driving the car up a ridiculously steep hill. The ponies run when its moving, but this dang rough idle is killing me.

Did you rebuild the carb yourself or have a shop do it? or Just buy a rebuilt one? It doesn't sound like the Carb is tuned right, or maybe tdc is off.

THANK GOD! some feedback.
I rebuilt the carb. I believe it is all correct. I have worked on motorcycle carbs before. Any paticular area on the carb that may cause these probelms?

I cant seem to find a timing mark on my pulley. I think I'm going to use a stick and find TDC on my #1 cyl. Then I can mark the pulley appropriately. Its 108 degrees outside so this is going to have to wait until it cools off, or i get an AC in my garage

Lol Dang its hot up there for you guys. It's been hot down here to so I'm in the same boat of not wanting to work on my car.

If the adjustments were correct on the carb, then you should just be worrying about the tdc. Your car still has the factory sticker under the hood that shows how the carb should be tuned right? If that was followed then the solid. Other than that, a guess at tdc.

What part up north are you at? I'll be in merced labor weekend, maybe I'd be able to check it out for you.

I do not have the sticker on the hood. I am in the mountains above (east) of Fresno. Ill get the TDC and timing sorted out tonight. I am also going to try to unhook the smog pump and see of it runs any better.

I had a 76 TE31 w/2TC I just sold a few months ago. Easy engine to work on and get running right.

The distributor may be out of time. engine may not have been at the correct TDC when installed. Haynes explains this procedure. Many times people who are unfamiliar with these engines will install the distributors at TDC on the EXHAUST STROKE instead of the COMPRESSION STROKE. If memory serves, the only way to determine TDC on the compression stroke is to remove the valve cover and turn the engine to the TDC mark that occurs as BOTH INT and EXH valves are CLOSED. If the engine feels "weak" on acceloration compared to how you know it "should" feel this is a likely issue.

While you are in there you might as well check your cold valve clearance again. It can't hurt.

Go to you local parts store and get a Haynes Corolla book or order one online. folllow the instruction to the letter and you'll be tooling around with a happy little TC in no time. If you've already done this, do it again following the book to the letter, you may have missed something, I know I have before.

A super easy and enjoyable engine to work on.
