I am still fairly new to classic Toyotas, so please bear with me if this has been addressed (several times?) before. I plan on desmogging the 2TC in my 74 SR5, after which I also plan to open it up a bit with a new intake and exhaust. I have been looking at dual side draft Webers as a future investment, which look to be ~ $1k. That said, I have seen some old listings for running 2TGs which run from ~$1k to ~$2.5k. Is this about right? It seems to me that a 2TG, though perhaps a bit more expensive than a new set of Webers and intake, is a much more worthy investment. Can anyone please shed some light on this? Is a good running 2TG a better performance value than buying new intake, exhaust, and ignition for the 2TC I currently have?

The 2TG in theory would have better top end flow characteristics being a dual cam as opposed to a single cam but at the same time there is so much aftermarket support for the 2TC and so many circle track racers making 200hp N/A that I don't see the point in making the change.

I sort of assumed that to be the case, but I didn't want to invest in the 2TC if the 2TG could be gotten as a better overall value.

My concern would be getting parts when needed since the TG was never a factory option here and they are ancient now, so even less readily available parts. Although it seems like people still get the parts.

By the time you spend $1500 bucks on a 2TG you will have about 20 more hp than a 2TC, instead you could spend that $1500 at BRD Racing and build a fire breathing 2TC, with lots of available parts and it would be bulletproof.

I just found some prices on performance pieces for the 2TG...ouch. I am definitely sticking with the pushrod engine for a long time.

Good choice. There are a lot of tuned 2T-C bulletproof engines running around now.
