So, I own this 85 Cressida wagon MX72 here.

My question is about how best to lower it. Ideally, I'd like to use these Megan coilovers; they're adjustable, they include camber plates, and they're a great value. Plus, Megan comes highly recommended by a few friends of mine.

The main problem I face is the rear suspension. I believe the coilovers are intended for the sedan, which has a multilink rear suspension setup, versus the wagon, which has a four-link panhard rod. Over on ToyotaNation, I was told that the coilovers could be mounted to the strut caps in the rear, but in all my research, I've never seen it done. The route most taken, aside from cut springs, which I'd rather not do, are Nissan S14 lowering springs with Camaro shocks.

Is there a way for the Megan coilovers to safely work in the back of the wagon? Has anyone here seen it? And if not, what else is effective?

These are the coilovers I'm talking about: http://www.vexmotorsports.com/Megan-Rac ... _8687.html

Thanks in advance for the help!

you can get j spec drop springs (super hard to find) or call t3 and they will be able to hook you up with something

Mine is on air in the back and I love it. Gets pretty damn low and I can raise it back up to 4x4 stance in 15 seconds side. It's the handiwork of the previous owner, joshiroku on this board. I think he documented it here, search his history if bags interest you.

I've thought about air before, but that's too rich for me. I've looked around and I'm probably gonna end up mounting the coilovers to the factory shock mounting points.

On a side note, I almost bought a Miata, but I wouldn't be able to buy one that's not BRG. Congrats on your find!

I have an MX62 sedan with the same solid axle rear, with a different front suspension setup.

Everyone and their brother on this forum seems to have knowledge of a couple of jankified ways to lower the rear of the solid axle Cressidas, but I haven't seen much that was in anyway impressive. Cut springs seems to be the way to go - personally, I won't do it, but its an option.

You don't have to cut the springs, just buy some shorter springs with a higher rate from some place like pitstopusa.com(I think that is it) or Ebay. You can put coil overs in the back, but since the car was never inteneded for that set up, there will be some fab work needed. First thing would be re-enforcing the stock shock mounting points. You can get adjustable spring mounts and fab them to work with the stock axle. Have seen a few build threads other places where they have used them with AE86s. Front coil overs are readily available from places like serialnine, T3 and megan. Same with camber plates.

I think he built it cheap, though I'm not sure.

My Miata is for sale, by the way...
