I am newm here. I have acquired my first Toyota. I am originally an S chassis guy from Nissan. I was fortunate to be able to get a deal such as this. I just bought a 1976 Toyota Corolla SR5 TE51. It runs too. I bought it for a steel. Everything is stock... For now. It is a project car, but its also gonna be my daily as soon as i get a tag and insurance for it. Well I am trying to figure out what parts are universal with this car. I am looking for a more performance oriented car. I want parts such as the dual mikuni carbs, exhaust/header combo, lsd, and lowering it. The only problem is that i really dont know where to start. It does have the factory 2TC motor in it. Well anyways here are some pics and a video link of its first start up for me. Hope you enjoy

I loved your smile when it finally started - even better dramatic effect as your face was partially obscured (note-not a diss'!).
Haven't we all been there, Brother!

nice pick-up! i like the old corolla's (especially coupe's and whatnot). looks a bit different to the ones we had here in Aus, but still nice.

if it was me, id start looking for rust. best to get onto it asap, before any gets worse. looks clean from the pics though.
other than that, a new front quarter, and under-tray section would be the go!

good luck with the project. :)

Nice find for a rare car. There was one for sale in Dallas not too long ago, but it probably wasn't a steal. :)

Well i am thinking about 160-175 hp really. I dont want to make more power than the car can handle. We were pushing it up on to a trailer, and it hit a rock, me and another guy lifted the back end completely up on accident, and im small, i only weigh 135 lbs. As far as being different than the ones in AUS, these were never available over there. And for the rust problem i am taking care of that this weekend. Im gonna get out there with some wire wheels, sand paper, bondo and primer. The car needs a good buff also. Will keep everyone updated. Its a project that should move fairly fast. I have about $1300 to spend on it these next 2 weeks

Glad to see that it didn't go to the crusher. Myself and a friend were thinking about going and picking that one up. Looks like you beat me to it  We will have to get a meet together someday. There are three or four of us from OKC on this board. Right now, I am in the same boat as you. The running cars that I have don't have tags or insurance right now. If you have some questions or need some help feel free to PM me.

Ken

Sweet, what part of OKC are you from? It was a great deal. I only paid $350 for it and it runs. I keep meaning to get some interior pics, but i have to find my camera. There is plenty of work to do with this car, i just dont have a place to do all of it. I live in an apt. complex which is a drag.

I am actually in the city around 23rd and classen. The cars are all stored over by 23rd and McArther. I am guessing you are somewhere near 122 and Penn? Kind of looks like the apartment ghettos in the pic... I lived up there for years. Right now, just the 87 is up and running, but it needs exhaust and tags. My friend has a 93 and an 84 celica that are running, tagged etc... My 76 celica is in pieces as is the 83 supra. We cruise Pull-a-part almost every weekend. Depending on what you need they may have it. Oldest J-tin there was a 76ish Corona. There were a couple of Supras I was pulling parts from, but I don't know if they are still there. I actually didn't go this past weekend. Like I said, you need some help, feel free to PM me.

Great find, Like my bud OkieRA29 wrote, we had eyeballed that one!
But we both have too many projects right now.
Looks like you got a good one to get started with.
I think I know where there is a orange one, never been close enough to it to see what year it is but I think is about the same as yours.
Get it road worthy well have meet, or cruise or whatever.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to a fellow Corolla owner. That car seems pretty decent. The sport coupes are definately hard to find so that is really a keeper. Good luck with it.

The cleaned and painted parts look great!!! Will the valve cover fit, or have you not tried yet?

Thank you! I havent tried the valve cover yet. I just got done rebuilding the carb and doing some body work. I did however find a shop in Okc that specializes in aluminum polishing.

Heres some updates on the body

Welcome bro. If you want to start this project right, you should start by attacking the rust first.
