Maybe a 50 sidewall on stock ride height.

Too many variables and unknowns to give you correct tire sizing for your project.

pics. and details request.

I ran 195/60s on my supras when I had them on the cressida. I can tell you that 235/60s will fit, but they need a bit of fender rolling. Also, you didn't state if this was an MX32, 63 or 73, that makes a big difference as well. Nevermind, saw you were a youngin with an MX73. Here are some pics to wet your appetite...

86 MX73 on 195/60s, 2 coils out of the front and 1 coil out of the rear.

The 235s did require some fender rolling both front and back. On big bumps they did rub a bit, but not too much. The turning radius was enlarged as well. The tires would rub on the inner fender if I took a corner too tight.

Doggone it, now I really miss my cressi.... :|

While on this topic, I was wondering what tips you guys might have for refinishing these wheels? I have a set of Supras on my MX73 right now but they are showing some oxidation. Can anything be done for them or is it just something I will have to live with? I guess I could paint them gold like on that '87..

Refinishing them shouldn't be an issue. Just a lot of work. If you head over to Celicasupra.com there are plenty of threads about refinishing rims. Most of the guys start out with 400 grit sand paper and work their way up to 2000 grit paper. After that, a buffing wheel in a dremel and polishing compound to finish.

Thanks for the compliments on the X7s... unfortunately, I do not own either any more. I do have an MX72, but it doesn't run right now. It does have supras on it though  There is another X73 around the corner from me that hasn't moved in years... need to remember to stop in and ask about it.

RA29: just go over there and say "i got 1200 cash...whadayuh say (business man grin)". i'm sure they'll think about it. if anything you're doing them a favor....or they're waiting for their nephew to get out of prison.

Minor note: my mom bought a 1985 AE86 GT-S off the lot around the same time she had me and when i was 11 her sister came to stay with us for a little while to start a business here in San Diego. Her sister needed a car at the time and my mom said "$1200 as long as you establish your business here". So she bought it...her business went to shit and she drove the hachi back to Arkansas and gave it to her son who blew it up and rebuilt it.

sometime goes by and i turned 19 and asked my mom "Ay, Wassup with the Corolla. Your sister still got it?" She goes "oh, yeah. but she's holding on to it for her son. he's in jail". i was like "aww man, that sucks. jail, huh? for what?" She goes "I dunno, something about multiple and Assault or something". I go "man that's not jail. that's fuckin PRISON". so it sat there for years. finally after sometime i hit up my auntie and go "hey, hows it goin. oh btw what's up with the Corolla (hoping she'll budge since it's been so long)". my aunt goes "oh your cousin just rebuilt it" HOLY SHIT, He got out !!!! hahahaha.....man...i wanted that damn Corolla back...

Moral of the story...Hachi Rokus are cool, don't go to prison, and don't sell shit to your sister (sorry i just had to put that in there LOL)

I'll be honest, I am a cheapskate. The most I have payed for a running cressida is 500$ for my factory 5 speed 87(the white one). The MX72 I have right now, I bought for crackhead money. Last MX73 we had, we(buddy and I) bought for 150$ with a 'blown' motor. After replacing the front of the wiring harness and replacing a fuse, it ran fine. Sold it about a year ago and from what I heard it was running strong and being drifted... auto tranny and all. Most I would offer for the cressida is 300$ Tag is out of date, don't know when it ran last and it needs a taillight. Luckily, old Jap Crap isn't highly sought around here and if you work it right you can get the deals.

lucky....a clean 510 or celica will run you at least 4 grand if the guy knows what he's selling out here.

Sorry for the massive thread jack.

But, how much lower was the car than stock when you chopped 2 coils in the front and one in the rear?

I really can't recall. It was quite a bit lower, let me find a stock pic of it...

Here is the 150$ 87 that we had a bit ago.
Image

It looks like the mudflaps are a couple inches higher. I would say that between the tires and the chopping, it was lowered about 2 inches or so all around. I just chopped till it looked right. I want to say that the white one only had 1.5 coils taken out of the front and one out of the rear, but I may be mistaken.

here we go, this is right before I purchased the car, matter of fact it is the first day I saw the car too.
Image

After seeing that pic I would say that it lowered the front at least 1.5 inches if not more like 2/2.5
