Was looking for a new daily driver and came accross this on craigslist. Pretty straight little driver. needs a little love but I think it will be a fun "driving project". Really wanted a T powered RWD Toyota compact to drive and I think this is just the ticket. It may not be the most disireable of body styles, as has been pointed out by my good friend Mr. L. :) , but good old RWD Corollas are hard to find now days especially here in Texas. There were a sea of them here when they were new but unlike California there has only recently begun a following for them here so up until now, no one cared to keep them. Here's the pics.

Exterior is pretty much all original un modified with the exception of an aftermarket power sunroof wich is actually kinda nice. Paint is descent and passes as nice at 10ft. Needs lower door seals and outer window sweepers. Needs me to get in there and track down some electrical issues like why the temp, fuel guage and cigarette lighter aren't working.

Then it's time to lower it a little. Still has the factory wheels and beauty rings wich in a way are kinda neat but she really needs wheels. Going to the junk yard this weekend to see what I can scrounge up.

Ultimately, the plan is to keep thi svery simple and reliable. The 2TC will eventually get replaced with a 3TC with TB intake, headers and a mild 1.75" exhaust. wheels, lowering a bit and eventually something has to be done about the bumpers! oh and I need to remove the tint from the windsheild....who tints the WHOLE windshield?? :screwy:

There's a good "free" fix for those. 8)

And no, I don't just mean throwing them away. :P

Didn't you know that's me motto?

Thanks for the compliments. I spent all weekend except for Mother's Day of course working on the little red-rolla. Fixed the wipers, changed the oil and spak plugs. Replaced the rear view mirror and front rotors. Still have the passenger side front rotor dragging a bit so I think I'll just replace both calipers. Still more issues to fix, fuel gauge, temp gauge and cigarette lighter and various other little bugs here and there. Also needs a valve cover gasket, the outer gasket is fine but the spark plug hole gaskets are leaking like mad.

Well, I got out and took a couple more pics. Also swung by the junk yard and found some nice outer window sweepers for $5 off a KE30. Few other little bits I will snag from it too.

Bad news. on the way to work this morning the red-rolla began losing power, could barely keep it up to freeway speeds. Got to the office and popped the hood to find the engine bay covered in coolant. Seems one of the small water pump lines off the waterpump blew and sent the coolant insto space. Overheat occured and I'm sure it's likely the HG blew and caused my drop in power. Would have noticed the engine getting hot had the temp gauge worked.. :(

Never smelled any coolant until i pulled into the parking lot here. Guess i have a new job to do. good time to port the head! :)

Repainted the vent trim to add the charcoal metallic center piece.

may have dodged a bullet today. it overheated and was losing power so i changed the coolant and replaced the blown hose in the car park here at the office and it seems to be running fine. there was a missing screw in the dist cap so some steam may have gotten in there and caused it to run poorly...lets hope thats all it was!

Hope that's all. My car started with a blown hose. Then the overheating problems started. Fluid would just disappear. Headgasket was find same with rad and water pump. Now the car can't start under its own power.

So far so good. been driving it back and forth to work the last couple of days 40mi round trip...no heat issues. Got all the brakes squared away, new rotors, calipers, pads and brake lines up front and new wheel cylinders in the back...stops on a quarter....not quite on a dime. :)

Headers are on the way, new exhaust next week. :) :) :)

Sweet one. Hard to believe but I remember when my grandmother had nearly an identical Corolla. Been about 20 years since she got rid of it, but I remember it well, it was white and a daily driver. Shame they get junked.... Nice too see one being cared for! I also remember a guy in town had a purple one with a Ford 302 in it. Let's just say it was retardedly fast and didn't last long lol.

have been smelling coolant for a few days now after driving it. found a bit of coolant leaking from the back of the head. going to pull the head and do a headgasket today.what fun! bolting on headers during the reassembly process.
