Awesome work on this thread. Are you familiar with the MSN Group Classic Crown (http://groups.msn.com/classicrown/visit ... there.msnw) or the Toymods car club (www.toymods.org.au) Forum in Australia. Lots of good info there. But anyway the main reason for my post was the illistration of the MS55 - Thats a series 1 sedan, are you going to illistrate the series 2 seperately ?

And are you listing the coupes and Wagons ?

I do know about those groups... and I occasionally browse through them. I'm working on the history of every single Toyota model, though, so I don't focus too much on any single group for too long.

For now I only have the intention to have one illustration for each model... its about one to two hours per illustration and there are almost 200 done at this point. I'm taking a short breather.

Corolla time.

When I was going through all of this research I somehow determined that the 1st-gen Corolla was introduced as a 1968 model and was sold as model yeas 1968-1969. But someone I know and trust is stating that the Corolla was introduced in 1968 as a 1969 model and sold through the 1970 model year. They are also suggesting that the 2nd-gen Corolla was sold as a 1971 model through the 1974 model year.

Anyone have any input on that? I am starting to think that is the case, but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Also, the RT43/RT52 Coronas were sold as a 1966 model, and I thought that they went through the 1969 model year, but we found some evidence that shows that they might have gone through the 1970 model year. Anyone know about this? I also have that the 2nd-gen Corona was first sold in the 1970 model year only in the 1.9L sedan, then in the 1971 model year in sedan and coupe with the 2.0L.

This is what I understand to be true. 1966 was the first year of the Corolla in the world. 1968 was the first year for the Corolla in the US. There were 3 model years for the 1st gen Corollas. 1968,1969,1970. This would seem correct according to what I know of 1st gens. These are the differences:

1968=no headrests on front seats. No shoulder strap for front seat belts. No red marker light on quarter panel. Small front turn signals under front bumper on valance. Front bumper is totally flat underneath, no cut out for turn signals. ?The front fenders have little lenses that actually are dummies there is no cut out in the fender for a wire or bulb?

1969=Headrests for front seats, shoulder belts for front, red marker light on qtr panel, functional light on front fender, large turn signal lights are large and front bumper has cut-out for them.

1970=Very close to 1969 but has very large orange lights on front fenders.

I have what I believe to be a 1969 model year Corolla. It is a KE15 model 1100 cc Sprinter.

They made the ke10/11 2 door sedan and 4 door sedan.
Ke15/17 2 door sprinter
And Ke18? 2 door wagon.

2nd gen Corollas ran from 1971 model year to 1974.

That is helpful. I found this page in a 1968 Toyota publication and wasn't sure if I should decipher it to mean that the Corolla was going to be a 1968 model year or 1969... but other sources that I have found indicated that 1968 was the first model year. I am going to change the ending year of the 1st-gen to 1970 and the 1st year of the 2nd-gen to 1971.
