Does anyone know if there is a 5 speed that will bolt up behind the 8rc? Even if I have to shorten the driveshaft or swap out the rear end as well, I would like to do a 5 speed swap. Dont some of the early celicas have 5 speeds with an 18rc?

P.S.
I dont know if I ever gave any updates on the amount spent on this car but the total so far is around $1800. Just a little tidbit I thought I would add since this is a budget rat! lol

any W50 that was behind a 18RC will bolt on but the cross member will need re-work. I am not sure about the driveshaft but I believe that it is different from the 4 speed

Solid. I dont mind a little re-work and I can make the driveshaft work if need be. So I guess the search begins for a trans now!

Progress has slowed thanks to a broken collar bone via mountain biking. But thanks to my dad helping we powder coated the wheels a darker blue and put on the tighty whiteys(portawalls) today.

Looks mint!

Wish my car had paint like that. Patina'd silver is so boring

Dennis Dejong prepared this article on his online magazine http://www.gearboxmagazine.com about my wagon. I was very excited to share my car and story with them and very much support these guys and their mission to unite gearheads from around the globe.

Found out a good way to protect the patina on a car with paint like mine is to use mag/aluminum polish. It brought out a nice "sheen" and makes water bead up pretty well. May try and polish it with some other things over the weekend. I figured I would let people that have followed this thread know as many guys prob have very oxidized like I do. More pics when I get time and Im off work hahaha. Deuces!

Not a yota but added some more JNC to my collection this weekend. Got to tune it up and then start lightening it more. Needs a few things to make it a nice racecar imo.

Trying to get the timing advance sorted out on this thing. Its a bitch to crank and im 99% sure its because I messed with the advance/retard knob on the backside of the dizzy. Does anyone know the stock setting and/or which direction (CW or CCW) does what? Chilton doesnt seem to say anything about it...

The "Vernier"? Thats what my book calls it, there is no real standard spot for it because it will just keep spinning. The book says its for very VERY small adjustments of timing once you have found the correct timing, its supposed to get rid of pinging. I don't think it will adjust enough to throw the timing that bad though. :|

Can you borrow or buy a timing light and check it that way? Trying to get the ignition advance sorted blindly it probably wasting your time.

We have a timing light but the timing mark was wayyyyyy off. I read in my chilton that the knob is called the "octane selector". It also said that every graduation of the knob would be 10 degrees of crank angle and I have turned it a ton in both directions before I even knew what it was. Im gonna tinker with it tomorrow and see what happens.

how did you get the front springs out. I tried a couple weeks ago and just couldn't figure it out, on top of the fact that I was scared that the spring would just shoot out and smash my face. did you have to use the compression tool or just unbolt a bunch of things.

Little more work from yesterday

Modified/flipped crossmember(needs more tidying) and spacers

Spacers all welded up/smoothed/blasted. Ready for powder coat.

I didnt use any special tools. I think I just unbolted the bottom A-arm from the spindle as well as the shock. Put a jack underneath the A-arm, unbolt, and let the pressure off slowly with that. Its been a while since Ive messed with it. Im rebuilding the whole front end soon so Ill prob have pics of it.

Thinking about getting this(below) so I can run the factory speedo since the 22re/5spd has an electronic speed output. I assume that I will need the xcable with the 5/8 female output but not 100% on that yet. Anyone else had any dealings with these things?
