I don't know if its true but I've been told by an old timer thar the 3rc mounts will bolt the engine strait in but the intake is too tall to use side drafts or a hood scoop and the trans will bolt up to the crossmember but it needs to go back like an inch or two I am not saying its truth just what tive been told I am still workin on getting mine home so won't be able to verify for a while

well to put an 18R or RG in an RTxx (40, 52, 81) you can/need to use the very short left side mount form an early hilux

the far right one in this pic (the left two are std celica/corona 18R mounts)
http://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-a ... 4292_o.jpg

I use the two shorter ones and make adapter plates to move the mounting points back about 2inches (on Xmember)
the gearbox Xmem also needs modification for W50 and yes its also roughly 2inchs back from the mounting points

ive noticed some RTxx chassis have 2 GB Xmember mounting locations (i assume one for auto one for manual) not all have both my RT81 does but RT40 from years ago didnt

ive never tried putting a 22RE in one but have done later hilux eng swaps and they dont look to different from the mounting points on the block of the earlier R motors.
Also on a UK forum theres a blue RT40 with full 22RE conv and a big write up with pics

Toymods is currently down but also 18RG and 4AGE into RT40 write ups on there

oh and forgot also need Mid Sump pan and oil pick up

That is one cool car! Love the classic styling of that beauty.

Just finished doing an 18R conversion in a RT40 Corona and it was a matter of using 2 short block mounts and a set of plates to relocate to the factory engine mounts on the crossmember.
Cheers Brett.

nice ride. I'm doing a track car myself at the moment(well, revived it so to speak) got mine with previous ownwer trying to to do a track car so I'm continuing the project.

Gonna be putting back another 18rg to it as the previuos one it had I took it and put it on my '74 celica.

Appreciate all the responses in regards to a later r engine swap. Here are pics of the brackets that i was trying to use but make the engine too wide.

I drilled a second hole in the face of the bracket with an attempt of "narrowing" the mounting width of the engine. All this did was in turn make the engine too tall and valve cover would hit the hood.

I would assume that with these "hilux" short brackets i would use the bottom mounting holes on the block?
The offset part of the bracket for the alternator and a/c compressor seem to be missing in the brackets posted above?

And is the mount on the right in hte picture below the one you guys are using with your 18r/18rg?

As far as 5 speed trannys go, which is preffered, w50, w55, or w56? i would imagine that i dont need to have the lower first gear ratio from the w56. w50/w55 seem the same as far as ratios go.

slowly making progress, more a battle of acquiring funds and parts.

Thanks a bunch. Ill post up more pictures and progress when they occur.

yes the one on the right Is the one I'm using for my 18rg. I'll see if I can post a picture of it. My rt52 when I got it already had and 18rg but I put it in my 74 celica and now i built another 18rg. I'll try find the mounts I had and post some pics.

Fyi, previous owner also drilled cross member on the engine mount in the rt52( see pics in my album)
