I have recently tripped over some stuff about some rare Toyota engines, and I would love to see some more.

Please post a few quality photos, preferably those you have taken.
Include if possible an exterior overview shot, any nice detail shots, and internals if possible.
Together with the photos, please post a little background on the engine.
(Early type/late type, carburetion, {Name of brand} header, converted to dry sump etc.)

When posting, please change the title in the "Subject" box to reflect the engine name.
If questions arise about the engine, please make sure the title in the "Subject" box matches the engine the question is for.
Example:

I will periodically update this post with a list of the engines that have been posted.

With apologies, I'd like to avoid engines with nausea inducing custom color schemes, or engines that are frighteningly commonplace.

Two I'd like to see more about:

Where did you get the hardware and small brackets (gold stuff)? Did you buy new or have the old stuff re-done? If you had it re-done who dipped/plated it?

Sorry for the crappy quality, I took these pics years ago on a 1mb mobile phone camera -- back when that was state of the art!

Engine is 4KR according to the block stamp, unfortunately can't be seen in the pic I took (I included it anyway). The head is Y 0005, Y for Yamaha I imagine. This engine was on display at the Toyota History Garage museum in Odaiba (Tokyo) a few years back now, not sure if it's still there or not.

And this one is so rare it barely made it off the design sheets, and didn't even get to working mule stage as far as I know. Much rarer than a 4K-R!

I believe Mazda supplied the rotor housings for Toyota's developmental studies.

Here's a full size crop revealing the origins

I had all the original stuff bead blasted to remove any rust and old coating, then a local electroplaters(i'm in New Zealand BTW) re-did the original zinc coat and gold passivation.
Not really that expensive ~ $100 for the whole lot to be done at once, I did however wire it up myself as current is used to electroplate, they supplied a coil of thin copper wire and i wired them all together in a manner that the lines from wires cant be seen. Most of the cost is in the time for them to wire it up and prepping for coat so bead blast and wiring myself saved a lot.

BUSTED

this person has been in contact with me.
and others (in other forums) have asked about him
and his "rare" engines

he has no clue what these engines are all about.
all his knowledge is based on what is available on the internet
and all the misinformation. not even close to what he should know-
if everything he had or he himself was legit

tried to pass of laser Yamaha 11111- (blank) heads as the 100E head
151E- that he was offering had dubious internals- he would not me send pictures
the Toyota race engines had different color scheme than he shows in his pictures

claimed he has a 100E running

claimed he sold a 151E for $60K

claimed that TOM's built the 3K 16 valve head
and was an 1800!!

totally clueless, ignorant, and arrogant too !!

engines supposedly purchased from an ex-TOM's mechanic
I asked for a name to verify with Tachi...
no reply, probably st...n

stay clear

wondering what he posted on this site too..
would be great if someone engaged him in a forum conversation

Not very rare, but definitely exceptional AND clean.
