currently tuning it up a bit.

---->having some trouble with #1 cylinder tho ... power balance test shows no change on #1 when i pull the spark plug wire as its running, all others bog. valves have been set as they were WAY off, gotta check if its getting fuel as it might be clogged. updates pending ...

wow you're hooked

question: how would you compare the drivability of the coupe vs. the goon? (before you modded the coupe of course)

you can get the oil pan and pickup off an 1980-83 810/maxima sine they have l24e's like the 70's 810s

yea im definitely hooked. These 2 should hold me over very nicely, for those days when i want loud and fast, and those days when im taking my 3 dogs to the park haha

comparison wise ... the coupe is obviously more responsive. A lot of that has to come down to the manual transmission. The automatic in the wagon has very nice smooth shifts but does nothing for excitement. Also the extra weight of the ass and solid rear axle are very noticeable. In the same respect the coupe is set a lot harsher from the factory(the wheels and weight reduction obviously aid that).

But I dont really have a favorite, the wagon cruises GREAT, the coupe is perfect when you want the smell of gas and tires in your face.

-----------------------------------------------------

Wagon update:

so the time is approaching and the wagon will soon take over daily driver duties. Ive put 100 miles since having it and shes running better every mile. she has definitely been sitting for A WHILE.

Ive done the usual maintenance and after doing a power balance test found that #1 cylinder was non-responsive. pulling #1 plug found a dirty oily, ungapped CHAMPION(lawnmower plugs) plug, and they were all swapped for Bosches. New Bosche wires, and cap/rotor DID NOT cure the problem but she is running much smoother overall. I checked timing and found it to be correct at 10 degrees. Also valves were adjusted as it sounded like a diesel.

A dry and wet compression test followed and the results were .... GOOD. All had 138-142psi.

Soooo .... I have air, I have spark, and I have compression ... time for a new fuel injector.

bad ass goon man glad to see you have a dd while you work on the coupe i got a question for ya you what mods are you gonna do to the coupe? i personally would swap the front sheet metal from the wagon over to it but like the early sheetmetal more then the late stuff

as for bumpers i would think a set fo 510 bumpers on the coupe would be bad ass im considering running a 510 front bumper on my 610 after body work is done similar to datsunfreak

thanks for the kind words man.

plans for the coupe are to be about as illegal yet street driven as possible. it will be on historic plates so pretty much anything goes. it will most likely be bumper-less(ive considered the smaller bumper idea but datsuns are hard enough to find on the east coast). First and foremost ... coilovers are going on and my sidedump 2.5" exhaust has to be finished.

as for the wagon ... it just fixed itself haha. the injector has unclogged itself.
so for the time being it will just be driven with a lot of seafoam fuel line cleaner. rides great.

say it ain't so ...

http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/1974451672.html

Quote:
This is a well running, driving and stopping 1979 Datsun 810 coupe. 5-speed manual transmission, & L24E fuel injected straight six motor. Has under 40k original miles. Currently it is set up for amateur weekend auto-cross events as it is lowered on coil over suspension, has suspension stiffening bar, has bumpers & interior mostly removed, has a 2.5" side exit exhaust, an intake and has deep dish 16" wheels with Sumitomo summer tires.

All modifications are easily reversible as all factory items come with the sale.

Needs ... light body work & new struts.

Comes with ... spare head for the motor.

Price of $3000 is FIRM.

SERIOUS buyers please email me for more pics, which i can text or email to you.

DONT WASTE MY TIME ... this car is rarer than any Z car or 510 and has all of the go fast goodies ready from the factory(all independent suspension, RWD, stick, straight six and Z car running gear)

Trades welcome ... aircooled or diesel VW's ONLY.
