NZ HR30 Skyline RB30DET build thread

Hey people im from New Zealand and Stagefumer11 directed me to this site so I though I would join in the fun!
Anyway I am building a HR30 Nissan Skyline Sedan with a RB30DET motor in it! Its still a work in progress but hope to have it going in around 6 or so months(lol but how many times have i said that :mrgreen:

) So here are some pics of what I have done and brought so far:

The day I got it, took springs out and some wheels on for a photo

Test fitting/dummying some parts

Testing/dumying some more brake suspension parts

Borrowed a mates 18x9.5 Work wheel for a test/size up(wish they were mine lol

And a 17x8

Some rust repairs I did

My intercooler

Weight reduction/sound deadning removal. yay few kgs out

Made a start on seam/stich welding and stregthening the front end

A little panel progress

My clutch

My turbo(Master Power T61 650hp) Wastegate(38mm Tial but may go bigger yet) and BOV(Greddy/Trust Type-R

My motor with some new underdrive pulleys

The works look insane, even more so if they had an iron-mask front end

hop to it mate.

Im guessing youve gone RB30E bottom end and RB25 head?

Yeah wish they were mine! But when its going I will be able to borrow them occasionaly. Yep its a R31 RB30E S2 bottom end with a R33 S3 RB25DE head fully rebuilt and lightly tickled over all and should make a easy 300rwkw

Thanks. Yea will keep the updates coming but wont be doing any work to the car for a couple of months as I need parts now and its in storage so will slowly collect them and get back into it at a later date

A few more parts purchased: 58mm alloy radiator, new HKS water temp gauge and sender, autometer phantom oil pressure and 30psi boost gauge. Next I think ill try get a Bosch 044 fuelpump when money frees up again

300rwkw should be easily achieveable with the right tune dude. Close mate of mine has the same setup in his R33 but with an XR6 Turbo mod'd with an external gate, made 320rwkw on E85/bout 20psi from memory i think. And yes, its fucking fast/scary.

You planning on running it on PULP or something else? 044 might be a touch too small...

Yea I kinda know that 300rwkw is easy enough with my setup but dont wana toot my own horn lol haha but it should be on alot lower boost acording to my tuner he says 290-310rwkw should be about 14-16psi and 18-20psi should be 350rwkw and thats with at least 550cc injectors and the nessicery supporting mods

And it will probaly be the HR30 L20ET standard fuel pump feeding to a surge tank then the bosch 044 700hp capable? pump will supply my motor what it needs! My tuner said the pump is enough up untill no more than 350rwkw then it will be getting stretched a bit

Awesome stuff! I love those Aussie RB30's! I would not go bigger than 16's as far as wheels.. just me. those works would look sexy though!

Nahhhh nothing Aussie about my car lol its all Jap. Yeah I know what your saying with wheel size but I think that the smaller wheel size suits a restoration type or lower power build where as I can get tyres way easyer and cheaper for 17". I will be geting the sames wheels as in pic 1 but in 8.5" wide(heaps more dish and offset) and 5 stud

Just keep an eye on the pump as it may be marginal. As for the standard pump feeding the surge tank shouldnt be an issue. In my gemini im running the standard carb pump bridged on 12V straight into the back of the 044. Theres a guy running 10's with that setup.

Obviously depends on how good the standard pump is though. Gem one isnt bad - good flow rate, but obviously low pressure.

but the all RB30Es wernt actuly cast/made made in Aussie were they? I thought they were jap. Yeah the standard pump is in good condition and they flow enough for the lift job and I have seen a few 300rwkw RBs with just a single 044 after the surge tank, but as I said its will be getting stretched heading to much over 300rwkw

Believe it or not the RB30 was co-developed by Nissan OZ and Holden [!!!], obviously based on the same architecture as the RB20E of the time. Not sure where it was actually cast, but i know all the development and tech was done here [being Australia], and i know they raided the parts bin pretty hard [noticed the 4 valve cuts on the pistons when its a 2 valve head? lol]. They were also only for Aus/Nz afaik, if you watch the Best motoring vid with the RB30DE twin carb R31, youll see they refer to the RB30 as export market only.

Yeah I know they were a Jap export NZ/OZ only motor and what they consist of but was unclear on what the story was with the design and build. Would be interested to read about the design, planing and ideas of the motor in detail! or is it just bitsa info that people know sorta affair?

Just thought I would say hi and that im still here and doing this vehicle but as the usaual story goes its the $$$ that are slowing me down! But im still trying to buy stuff all the time! Like I have brought one more Racepro race seat to go with the other one, 2x 17x9 Enkie RP01s for spare skid wheels for later, a Sard fuel pressure regulator and a few other little bits and peices that will help in the future. I will get photos up when they are all ready

Ok I my intake plenum is 99% finished and was fabricated by my mate Darryl, he just has to weld on the plate for the vacume ports, he has also machined up the injector colars for the FD3S 550cc sidefeed injectors to fit in the standard(yet modified) RB25DE/T fuel rail which is curently being modified for centre feed and twin outlets to the FPR(Sard) and I will be using all race style anodised fittings for this! Pics will be uploaded soon!

"Raided the parts bin pretty hard [noticed the 4 valve cuts]" Maybe....but there wasn't another 86mm bore RB until the RB26 in '89, and the RB30 existed on the market (At least in Australia) in '86.

Maybe if Nissan had a time machine in the engine plant.

You 'know' all the development and tech was done in Australia? I'd like to see the evidence. And they were sold in Aus., NZ... Plus SA, the middle east and potentially elsewhere being that the RB30S was the carb six cylinder engine option for the Patrol...
