The car was abandoned in a state forestry and it has been handed over to a tow truck driver by the police (so he owns it) and his son has then received it and a couple of other vehicles.

It is a 1974 Datsun 120y (B210) which somebody has gotten a Rb25 and stuck it in and it appears it needs a new diff along with a hole in the bonnet welded up along with some clean-up of of a few rust spots and the rear windscreen has been punched out.
here are some pics

I reckon i could save it just by selling off the RB25 and buying a A12/14/15 and associated mounts, a h150 diff and a new rear winscreen. A rattle can paint job and some rust repair and patch up the massive hole in the bonnet (i have access to a welder). What do you guys think. This would be my first project.

Free is the price so i guess the Price is Right. Just realised it probably doesn't have the stock box as well so that would have to be sourced.

The kid says it's an rb but it does look a bit like a CA now that i look closely. Just asking him if it says 16v on the valve cover and if so then i'll know it has a CA

EDIT: It is a 6 cyinder but it apparently says 16v on the valve cover WTF?

I'm just gonna assume that its a ca18 det

but now there is a massive spanner in the works. I want to use this as a learner car (P Plate car for those who know something about aussie laws) and by law i'm not allowed to drive a "high powered car" which basically means no turbos/superschargers or v8's or cars with a mod plate (a plate to say that the car has been modded properly in relation to laws).
This car has a turbo motor and a mod plate and now if i take on this project i need to find out if i can reverse this process and basically return it to stock and not have the transport department ban me from driving it.

Now i gotta wait a while until the transport department gets back to me about this before i even try to take this on because there isn't any point if i can't drive it.

Well his dad has actually driven the car now (after the old diff was welded in which seems dodgy to me) and has told the kid that i can't have it because i'd put it round a tree with the motor that's in it. Thanks for your input anyway.
