Bay Area Nostalgics Tour - Something that came to mind after I drove cross country to pickup my S600 years ago. Been in the works for a while now and finally has come to life.

Image

Final destination being:

Image

This coin popped up in the change I got back on my last purchase of the night before the trip.

The first stopping point, the Bonneville Salt flats.

Image

I always knew the Salt flats existed but never had realized how close they were until visiting WI. And with all the history behind such an amazing place I knew one day I had to come back. So after some planning and trying to sort out dates my friends and I pulled the trigger and booked our trip.

The cars of choice were our Japanese Nostalgics s30, Ae86, and the C10. I mean we originally bought the cars to enjoy them so why not drive them. Nothing better than a road trip with some good friends. The second stopping point is to visit Eric at Jdm Legends. I hadn't been back since I bought my car and since they had just moved to a new shop what better way to end the trip.

The plan was to head out bright & early as we had a LONG 10hr drive ahead of us. Spend the night in Wendover, the next day spend the whole day at the salt flats & then head over to SLC. Interesting enough Eric B (owner of the red Hakosuka) was going to be in town that same weekend. So Saturday morning we would pick him up at the airport & join him to pickup his pride & joy at Jdm Legends.

We start our trip bright and early. I had issues getting the Hakosuka road worthy due to some upgrades so last minute I took the kenmeri.

Its taking longer to upload the pictures so I'll leave you with these teaser pictures for tonight. More updates tomorrow.

Haha you definitely got farther along sorting pictures than I did. Finished up power washing more remnants of the salt flats under my Z last night.

Ya I had a highschool teacher that would go to the flats. He would park his car on his lawn and run the sprinklers to get all the salt off his car.

I was always told the same thing by all the Hotrod guy's, you should not use a pressure washer as it drives the salt into all the seams. I was told to put it in the driveway on jackstands and use a small sprinkler and move it around under the car at different place's for a gentle rinse.

Donner pass

Made it to Reno in with slightly lower than a quarter left. The S30 was getting way better gas mileage though. The Ae86 was getting 34-36mph.

Image

Image

Leaving Reno & headed to the desert

I'm a fan of all types of cars & this Porsche caught my attention

Image

S30 Leading the pack

Image

With no fuel stations for miles I was cutting it really close. Luckily the s30 read my mind

Image

So many miles behind us with so many more to go

Image

Image

Ready.....Seto....Go!!!

Image

Finally we see the light at the end of the tunnel

Home sweet home

Image

Image

After a good night sleep we got up and prepped the cars for Bonneville. While getting ready out of nowhere this guy showed up and walked up to the Zed. We thought he was Casino security but little did we know the Z brought back memories of when had one. He was also nice enough to tell us if we planned to go out to the flats to be very very careful. He warned us there are areas that cant be soft so he wouldn't advise us to all go out at the same time.

Image

Image

With gas prices this low we had to fuel up

Image

The flats are only 10 min drive from our hotel. Exit 4 and right at the stop sign.

Image

Image

Image

From here its another 3 miles

Moments in time on the Bonneville salt flats.

Man it was bright out there

Image

Thankfully there weren't many people out.

Image

Yup just as the guy told us

More tomorrow..

I love it, looks like a great trip, I can't wait for more pictures. I wish we would have planned a little meet or something while you were out here, it would have been nice to meet some other people from the forums and see the cars.

First thing you want to do is walk out on the salt. Its amazing how big this place is, and your mind plays tricks on you. Living near snow you naturally think snow!!

Image

Image

Image

Image

There are some pretty big areas with standing water

Image

Image

Image

Also some areas where the salt is rock solid

Image

Image

Image

The hachi decided to test how stable the salt was

Image

Image

Image

After he gave us the Ok and looking for the driest area we made our way out there.

Image

Image

Image

If you looked closely in the previous pictures the hachi had different rims out back. The owner drifts this car on a regular at T/hill and he couldn't resist getting sideways.

Image

Picture does it no justice so here is a video

After a few runs

Image

Image

s30 couldn't resist either

The journey continues... more pictures tomorrow...
